I love to fly in simulators, especially helicopters. But, there is just not an affordable collective control that I have found, so I decided to make one for myself! I am going to build a joystick using an Arduino Micro, with a bunch of buttons for assignable controls and a high quality encoder for the collective axis.

Supplemental Content:

  • Download Code from Github
  • View Model and download 3d Cad files

One good project, it's one project that you can modify So I changed my mind, I use now one hall sensor AS5048a with 14-bit resolution ( Best resolution and linerality ) I changed too, the place of friction…

Pictures coming, better later than never So I used on SS495a, and to have one big range of value for "only" 45° of move, I done one adapter with 2 magnets. With this I have near 0 to 5 Volts on SS495a…

Yeah still getting message. Buts its probably something to do with programming logic....

Hi. You just need to download the library.

Above is what I have so far but could you please clarify where your getting Joystick.h file. When I attempt to verify in Ide editor I get error message "Joystick_ does not name type".

thanks for your help and especially thanks for your shared information on Heli Collective:)

Oh Yeah please understand i've always been more of a hardware guy and can build hardware and wire it up like its candy:) software on the other hand is kinda my weak-point... So please excuse the rookie question....

    respectfully

    Andrew

Hi everyone instead of using arduino I have one of these boards BU0836X 12-Bit Joystick Board [BU0836X] - 49.99GBP : Leo Bodnar, Simulator Electronics

If I use this board do I need to change the Bourns encoder for the collective to raise and lower and will I also need to change the small gear to something else ?

any suggestions would be great will everything work ok with this board

I also noticed with this board it shows to wire the ground for each switch / button strange

Hi all, i have begun a similar project to make it work first as a switch board with an Arduino Leonardo and i will be moving on to implement this collective once all the elements seem to work fine. I have a simple question about using toggle switches [ON-ON] in such a setup, and not momentary, and the question is how do you manipulate the time release on the switch input so as not to register as continous press...The point being, switch in one direction press x button for y ms, other direction press z button for t ms...Any pointers on how to code this? Thanks again for such a brilliant project and idea. I would appreciate any input on this as i am just beggining to delve into the workings of arduino and i am constantly learning.

That is very odd, when I load that page in chrome (and in incognito, not logged in) it shows a button just above the spatial block on the upper right hand side that says "download" from there you can download many formats of the files.

I have added the .fbx file to github for download. Link to github is above.

Let me know if that helps,

    -Kaleb Clark

    Hi Kaleb,

Any chance you could upload the Eagle schematic file please? Im going down the route of getting the board printed as my soldering skills are sub-par. Thanks in advance.
