A lot of our videos contain custom PCBs, and those don‘t appear magically out of thin air. In this episode Clem takes you through every step of Custom PCB design and assembly! In a mere 20ish minutes you get a grasp of how much work is in that one building block of a project.

Good episode Clem. Building PCB's are a lot easier than they were in my day. We had to have all of the traces routed by hand. DAB

glad you like it, once you made the jump into pcbs you will getthe ideas. just start by recreating a simple desing you already have, maybe a breakout board for a chip. little projects add up to full blown…

I have deep respect for all the work that went into making pcbs by hand drwing and etching, so of course I also did it myself with a pen and etching. Knwoing where aprocess came from also helps understand…

this board is designed to use the native USB capabilities of the ESp32S2, a single CP2102 costs more than all the parts on this board combined at current pricing.
So this design does not need it and it is made specifically to explore the more advanced functionalities that were under development at the time I designed the board.

Of course you can still communitcate over UART but that would require a USB to Uart bridge like the CP2102. In fact both can be used at the same time, which I sometimes do for debugging.

that leads me to the second question:
a normal ESP32 does not have the same USB capabilites as the S2 or S3 /C3, a normal Esp32 needs a USB to uart chip to communicate with a pc as it only has a normal UART port.

the standard Manufacturer Made Esp32s2 Saola dev kit is basically the same as the old ESP32 variant just with a different chip, that means it does NOT use the native USB port at all. youd need to port it out yourself. this was most likely done to get dev kits out on the market as fast as possible while the native USB stuff was stuill under heavy development.

I'm new to Embedded systems, I have a doubt.

Why didn't you use a CP2102 USB to UART IC?

What is the use of that IC IN ESP32 Dev boards?

Knwoing where aprocess came from also helps understand some requirements in design that are not as obvius in digital form.
