In what's become an annual tradition,  since this program started, we award special prizes to winners of our holiday special and then let the winners choose another member to give a special gift to another member for their project.  We announce the winners of the gift to gives on Valentines Day and award the member who gives and the the member who receives a gift a special Heart Trophy to commemorate the occasion.   This year, was a lot like last year but we were lucky enough to award bigger prizes. We had a lot of really exciting projects during the Holiday Special 19 and RF (Radio Frequency) and it's good to see some of these projects, many of them receiving votes from our community member judges during the winners announcements, receiving their much deserved prizes.

Valentine's Day Winners were Chosen by the winners of Holiday Special 19  from the following projects:

  • Project14 | Holiday Special 19: Meet the Projects that Give Heart to the Holidays!

We also set up special prizes (Raspberry Pi 3 in box) selected by the winners of RF (Radio Frequency) from the following projects:

  • Project14 | RF (Radio Frequency): Meet the Projects that Explore or Involve RF!

Without further adieu here are your winners.....

Grand Prize

"There were a lot of projects that I liked, but the video and walk through/explanations for the Jingle Wi-FPy: Encoding a Tune with UDP Packets project just felt really well done to me (wish I could make my videos feel more professional like that). So that one gets my pick."  - garengllc , Grand Prize Winner, Holiday Special 19

Indeed there is - but I suspect they're probably going to want to have someone doing something perhaps more computationally intensive (i.e. requires Pi4-type horsepower) in a difficult application (i.e. where PoE would be a godsend - like up the top of a flagpole) rather than some pokey stuff like what I'm doing. I suppose one could also join the PicoTech Data Logger RoadTest and get some Pi4 action that way too.

In fact, I've had no problems co-ordinating both power supply/oscilloscope instruments over SCPI and a chart recorder over Modbus TCP using Python, pyvisa, pymodbus using an original Raspberry Pi B+ to do verification for a RoadTest I'm finishing up right now ... you really don't need that much computing power for most projects, you just need to get rid of bloat and over-the-top grandiose expectations (i.e. settle for a text terminal).

Out of interest, there's a RPi4 up for roadtesting Raspberry Pi4B (4GB) plus POE Hat - you could show us how a simple Pi could be used to control larger pieces of complex test equipment in the lab for example?

Valentines Day is not usually a day of much celebration for a single-bloke like myself ... but I'm very honoured to have been chosen by Jason (garengllc) for the grand prize for what was essentially one of my earliest attempts at Project14, with a project that is perhaps undeservedly simple. Thanks for your kind words and appreciation, and for the gift of tools and shopping cart!

As for how to spend the cart ... I'm going to have to have a good think, but since I was tipped off as to how to potentially fix my three-quarters working Rohde & Schwarz HMP4040.04, I should probably stock up on some components to attempt the repair ... after I check what happened to the MOSFETs on my board, of course. The rest might end up headed towards a RPi4 (not easy to find sometimes) or 3A+, since my first-gen RPi A/B+ boards are getting a bit long in the tooth ...
