Win a Raspberry Pi 4 in Celebration of Our 10th Birthday!

 

Hello Community members! As some of you know, we are celebrating the Community's 10th Birthday this year.  In our excitement, we thought a lot about what we wanted to do for our 10th birthday and came up with a variety of activities from the absolutely ridiculous (renting a bouncy castle, RasPi piñatas, partying on a private island) to the less ridiculous (team dinner and cake woowoo!) but once we found out our birthday would be coinciding with the release of the new Raspberry Pi 4, we knew we had to celebrate our birthday with Pi, not cake! (Please insert loud vuvuzela sounds here.)

 

As many of you have probably already seen over in the Raspberry Pi space, there's been a flurry of activity surrounding this latest release. Many retailers have either completely sold out or have all versions on back-order. Luckily, we managed to snag some of the elusive new Pi's in order to entice you all to help us continue celebrating our birthday through the summer by building some awesome projects.

 

So: what do you have to do to be in the running for one of the brand new Raspberry Pi 4's? Just follow the instructions below!

  • The new Raspberry seems to be upgraded mostly in the field of the performance.

    All “core” equipment is significantly faster (cpu+memory+network&buses which concern even the SD card interface)

    Thus I would focus on the utilization of these extra capabilities. As far my Raspberry projects are in the area of the smart home.

    I think I will not invent anything special and original adding extra sensors etc.

    so I will leave the I/Os enlargement but I would like to try to use RPi4 as the data processing center in my existing RPi smart home project.

    Let’s use current “I/O environment”: weatherstation sensing (temperatures/humidity light + wind), smart home equipment as opening/ presence sensors/ contactrons and so on…

    tons of data from my HVAC SCADA temperatures+pressure+flow

    If we add anti-burglar system and surveillance cameras, the capacity of data looks as the monster.

    Honestly, so far I didn’t try to combine it all together in one system.

    But who dare to forbid me to try use that small beast. Its electronic brain supported with fast memory looks good for comprehensive big data analyses.

    As far I tried to implement it in the ordinary PC environment but…

    I’m truly impressed reading of Data Science projects.

    The motto for the project is: take data and suggest me more efficient usage of my environment.

    I would focus on energy savings and overall advices for sustainability…

    + >> use of doubled HDMI - dual screen for better processes visualisation and enhanced dashboards.

    Well, sounds ambitious but isn’t RPi4 ambitious too?

  • Utilizing the higher processing speed and dual screen capability, I may be able to build a workable version of interactive kinect games based on depth sensing, facial and voice recognition that will thrill (or frighten) my 4yo at home.

  • With full chain of Raspberry Pi since RaspberryPi 1B, it seems that there are always surprises except this Pi 4, even with uncompatible Type-C USB PD problems.

    I would test whether RP4 can take over the places of most home Desktop Computer by building one industrial viable Pi4-top computer. The idea is nothing new, but need experirence in selecting External Hard Drive memery, power supply,  LCD, HMI or UI configuration.

    More time shall be taken on Hardware design like cases and buttons instead of electronic parts. I would build one upgraded personal pi-top like from scratch.

    In fact, the idea is inspired by Raspberry Pi and I would integrated some new design,  and not a copy.

     

  • I'd be interested to try out the ARM DSP extensions on the RPi, specifically in audio applications.

  • I always wanted to try building a micro Pi laptop out of an old netbook I have lying around. But the previous models didn't really have enough RAM to make using the Pi laptop practical. I think the 4GB of RAM would make this work a lot better.

  • I plan to get a 1gb unit as a secondary pihole/media server and a 4gb unit for retro gaming and just messing with.

  • Been waiting for the Pi to bump up to 4gig for a while, have a few projects which could benefit from the extra ram. image
    Including a 6" Newtonian telescope, and some Computer vision projects (robotic in nature).

  • I’d like to build a fully functional Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that’s ultra-portable.

  • Well, since the new model offers real Gigabit-LAN, I‘d use it as a NAS.

    From that learning solution, he then get's exposed to the IoT landscape and with my background in networking F5, Zscaler, Okta, I can introduce him to cloud AWS/GCP/Azure and really the sky is the limit for him then. He can build and control from anywhere and the only limit is his imagination. I am really looking forward to seeing what he does as I firmly believe in "If you built it, they will come..."
