What is the Ideal Prize?

I am curious what the most desirable prizes might be within the community.

I have selected items from each of the following categories for this poll but feel free to indicate something else in the comments below.

  • Measurement instrumentation
  • Fabrication tools
  • Communications devices
  • Computers
  • Cameras
  • Toys/Entertainment

What is the item you would most like to see offered as a prize in a design contest?

I think the problem with the nice big prizes is that once you have one it would feel wrong to hoard multiples when other participants could use them. I do like the fun silly kind of toy or robot prizes…

I was making that e14 smd soldering kit thing but I forgot about it.

I can keep working on it, if e14 wants to use it as a prize.

I thought of another prize that people might like but have a hard time justifying as a personal expense - a proper LoRA gateway.

I wonder who chooses the prizes when they are not obviously something the sponsor makes.

How much influence do element14 staff have in the choices?

I remember that used to always be the giveaway on saturday morning tv shows in the UK.

And/Or... you could kick it up a truly awesome level electronics notch by having the e14 team build some kind of electronics assembly / soldering kit image

    Rod, Shabaz:

I was selected in the recent RoadTest for the GW Instek oscilloscope with spectrum analyzer mode and expect to receive it soon.  The spectrum analyzer mode and educational possibilities were what interested me in it.  If there is something you would like looked at or have ideas for testing let me know.

A decent PCB printer, now there's a plan. I know the current offerings are ok and relatively expensive to run, but they should get better in the future. I also know there are many PCB print houses spitting out boards from as little as £2 - but a prototype, printed in a relatively short time, allows you to spot issues if there are any, rectify and repeat. Once the design is nailed down and proven to work then sure, outsource production for a run of them.

I know I'd prefer to create the odd one when I need it instead of proto-boarding them.
