TGIF - share your weekend plans for the BeagleBone Black!

Howdy - I was quite pleased to get a groovy BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black t-shirt at The specified item was not found. and couldn't resist wearing it for TGIF.  Boris looks so classy!

For those that have already have a BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black, do you have any new projects you are going to start this weekend?  And for those that are waiting, is there a project idea that has got you excited?

I'm hoping to get RTLizer (an RF spectrum analyzer powered by a USB DVB receiver) to run on the BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black using the HDMI output and GPIO inputs for controls.  Here's what it looks like running on my original Boneoriginal Bone with a LCD3 capeLCD3 cape and battery capebattery cape:

I'm planning to finsih reading the in-depth System Reference Manual [PDF] which I found in BeagleBone Black article on the CircuitCo wiki.  I can't wait for my order for Bad to the Bone to arrive:

If you've not had the pleasure of meeting the brains behind Beagle, Jason Kridner & Gerald Coley, then I recommend checking out this video where cliff ortmeyer of Newark element14 interviews them about the new BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black.  You'll also get a glimpse of the BaconCape (yum!) and a demonstration of how BoneScript makes it simple to interface web apps with the physical world:

And since it's now happy hour on Friday, this video on brewing beer with the BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black would seem to be an appropriate chaser:

Aw, sorry to hear.  I think it will be worth the wait though from the time I've spent with the BBone Black so far.

Quick update - over the weekend I updated to the latest image: http://dominion.thruhere.net/koen/angstrom/beaglebone/BBB-eMMC-flasher-2013.05.03.img.xz (via http://circuitco.com/support/index.php?title=Updating_The_Software).  I now have:

    root@beaglebone:~# uname -a

    Linux beaglebone 3.8.11 #1 SMP Fri May 3 15:39:16 CEST 2013 armv7l GNU/Linux

I also got BeagleStache running on it along with BeagleButan (a Python helper that bonnie555 wrote for a big red USB button).  Here's the setup:

    And here's a video:

Out of curosity, how long did the update take ?  I've seen it documented to take 45 mins, but that feels too long.

I'm going to start with a minimal Debian on mine rather than fighting on with angstrom. However the day job is getting in the way image

Yep, the postman nearly jumped out of his skin when I opened the door just as he was about to knock and snatched it off him image

Thinking I may just order another one or two now before everyone else does !

RS Components quote delivery 17 May so I have one on order from them as well now.

Interested in how you get on with Debian, hope the day job isn't too distracting, I was made redundant in 2009 so took early retirement, no job to get in my way, just the wife and family image

Just checked Farnell UK and they now say: 16267 will be available for delivery on 17 May, 2013

I may soon have 2 to play with image image

It does take about that amount of time.  I usually check on it after an hour and it will be done.  I read on the beagleboard google group that there may be ways for them to speed that up in the future as once more important issues are resolved.

I am looking forward to trying other distros, too.  I've only used angstrom on beagle's.  I'm getting used to opkg, systemd and some other things, but I'd probably go to Debian or Ubuntu when there's a BBB image available.

    Farnell UK now says:

1000 will be available for delivery on 20 May, 2013

1000 will be available for delivery on 27 May, 2013

2000 will be available for delivery on 3 Jun, 2013

That's really not adequate, not by an order of magnitude, maybe two.  I would guess that the stock from each delivery will vanish within an hour every week.  This is the good old (aka. "ridiculous") Rpi situation all over again, and I wonder if CircuitCo is ready to handle the worldwide demand.

"Price is king", and as price drops, demand becomes exponential.  Just like in the parable of the grains of rice and the chessboard, humans aren't very good at understanding and planning for exponentials.
