Welcome the BeagleY-AI !

cstanton over 1 year ago

Beagleboard have brought out a new single-board computer aimed at artificial intelligence and it's in a form factor that's very different to its previous offerings:

Find out more here  BeagleY-AI

beagley-ai

The BeagleY-AI is available to pre-order from our online stores and I'm told we will have stock from June/July time, if not earlier. Meanwhile, the documentation is being fleshed out more than it is already, so we could consider this a 'soft launch'.

Full schematics and details are on their github page, and all relevant links are on our product pages as I receive them.

This beagleboard intends to be an affordable Ai accelerated board compared to other offerings, and at about £57 the price is rather nice!

If, like me, you got very excited and pre-ordered one then I suggest you check your order. I heard on the BeagleBoard Discord channel that they're hoping boards will arrive at the distributors very soon…

Great feature set. I hope it catches on and builds an eco system.

    Good board.

I have not tried more sbcs than a raspberry pi. I have beaglebone black without wireless. That is kind of useless.

I don't get why these boards provide 4 USB ports and only one ethernet port. I am looking for boards that have two ethernet ports. That way I could try some networking stuffs and also would make sense if I use poe hat.

On the other hand 4 USB ports if all of them are used at once the sbc gets less power and warns about having less power than required.thats why it does not make sense to me having 4 of them.

This happens on the Pi only if you're not using a power adapter that provides sufficient power. The focus of the Pi generally is to expect you to plug in a keyboard and mouse, to the USB 2 ports, and then have demanding items in the USB3 ports, at least on the latest model.

In my experience, power delivery has not been an issue with Beagleboard's products.

USB WiFi adapters work well with the beaglebone black.

You can add a USB ethernet adapter if you want a second ethernet port. We needed a Pi to span both an internal and external network and did this. Probably not the highest speed, but worked for our use case.

I have done this too, gigabit ethernet USB adapters work well on the USB3 ports and have an adequate throughput.

yes, I had USB mouse+keyboard and an HDMI monitor. That just required much power than what RPI can provide. Also, cooling was needed such as fan. In such a small form factor it is sometimes hard to accommodate everything.

Could you please tell me example of demanding USB requirements after mouse and keyboard? haha. Please don't say USB to ethernet adapter.. haha

I don't fully understand your question, however I'll explain what I meant.

USB3 ports are better suited for high-speed devices, such as a USB to ethernet adapter, but also USB storage for SSDs or hard drives. USB3 in its specification should also be able to negotiate higher power draw than USB2.

USB3 should allow for up to 900mA at 5v, USB2 is 500mA at 5v by default
