Problem in installing eMMC with Linux from Windows 7 64bit

Hello,

I have just received my RIoT board and wish to change the existing Android OS to Ubuntu.

I downloaded updater tool for Linux Image: http://downloads.element14.com/linux/Linux.zip?ICID=knode-riotboard-quick&COM=RIoTboard

However the updater tool would not start up.

The OS on my laptop is Windows 7 64bit.

Here are the steps I followed:

1. Set the boot jumpers to Serial Download as stated in the RIoT board User Manual

2. Extract the Linux.zip to a folder

3. Copy the files from 'image_SVN2487' directory to 'tools\Mfgtools-Rel-4.1.0_130816_MX6DL_UPDATER\Profiles\MX6DL Linux Update\OS Firmware\files' directory.

4. Power up the board using 5V DC jack with 3A power adapter

5. Connect the USB-OTG cable to PC and it recognised as USB HID Input device

6. Run the Updater MfgTool2.exe - However this fails with the below Error

image

I have tried using Admin Mode but does not work and shows the same error.

I wish to know if any one has faced this problem or has a solution for this.

Kindly point out if there are any mistakes in my configuration steps.

Warm Regards,

Abhijit

    You missed a little step.

There´s a little file called ucl2.txt that has to be renamed to ucl2.xml.

    It should be here:

    Linux\tools\Mfgtools-Rel-4.1.0_130816_MX6DL_UPDATER\Profiles\MX6DL Linux Update\OS Firmware\ucl2.txt

Double check the boot switch settings and have a look in the logfile to see if it gives any more details.

    Hi,

    Thanks to you guys,

Ubuntu installation is working on the RIoT board now.

There are two additional learning that I would like to share.

    1. Putty Based terminal connected to the Serial Debug all times helps to check the progress and booting of the boards. From: Impressions on the RIoTboard and changing its Operating System in Windows

    2. While changing the boot configuration switch the board must be turned off.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Warm Regards,

    Abhijit

Can´t tell you specific things about this eMMC chip. Only found out that it´s a MCP. (Multi Chip Package)

But since it´s just a normal NAND Flash: With SLC you have about 100k or more cycles. With MLC Chips it´s about 10k or more.

I can´t find info if the chip is SLC or MLC. But I think it´s one with MLC because SLC chips are pretty expensive.

    FYI:

    SLC = Single Level Cell

    MLC = Multi Level Cell

With SLC only one bit per cell is saved.

With MLC two bit per cell is saved.
