I have a new lib design but i have 3 pins and 4 pad two of which are common

ground. Anyway to connect two common pads to one pin?

Short answer: no. but you can name them gnd@1 and gnd@2 and whatever

appears after the @ will not be shown, which makes it a little  better.

Have that done but only the one labeled GND gets connected to ground. The

other has no pin connected to it so it reamins floating.

yes, each must have a pin in the schematic and you must connect it there..

As Gary said, "no". It is expected in version6

You could fake it the following way but as with all work-arounds, there is a

    nasty element to it .

Add a 4th pin to the symbol. For the two pins that will be commoned, make

one the 'medium' length and the second one a 'point' length pin. Place this

point pin 0.1" closer to the body of your device. Turn off  the display of

the Pad and Pin names for this 'point' pin.(I also rotate it to prevent the

names from colliding with the other pin)

When using this part on the schematic you need to remember to run the NET

    wire to both pins.

Click to on the end of the stub that represents the pin, then click 0.1"

close to the body.  The airwires on the board will confirm if  you have

    succeeded in doing this.

The attached is a three pin version of what I am describing to show you how

it looks - Symbol, Board and Schematic

    A compromise but it works.
