Disabling Right-Click Menus in v5.8.0

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 15 years ago

Is there a way to disable the right-click context menus in v5.8.0?  I have

just switched from v4.16, and have gotten used to being able to simply

right-click to perform actions on a group without the additional click in

this new context menu.  This makes accurately moving groups of parts

difficult, as the group snaps to where your mouse cursor is when you click

Move:Group in that menu.

Love EAGLE!  One of the best pieces of software I've ever used!

I think the key may help.

From the manual  Options for Experts in Eaglerc>

    Group Selection

Since the context menu function on the right mouse button interferes with

the selection of groups, a group is now selected with Ctrl plus right mouse

button. If you want to have the old method of selecting groups back, you can

    add the line

    Option.ToggleCtrlForGroupSelectionAndContextMenu = "1"

to the file. This will allow selecting groups with the right mouse button

    only

and require Ctrl plus right mouse button for context menus.

    Hi Rod,

I know what you're talking about. I'm afraid you can't turn off the

context menus. A way I have found to move objects precisely is to use

the properties command. When you open the properties command you can see

the exact coordinates at which the component is located. By modifying

these coordinates you can very precisely locate your components.

    Hope this helps.

That's poppycock!  Warren had it right.  You can use the "set" command to

change some of the low level behaviour like this one.  The first thing I do

when I install EAGLE 5 is to do this to get the EAGLE 4 behaviour back for

applying a function to a group.

There is also one there to reset the cursor position when you have that

case so you don't lose your position by using the menu.  But I prefer the

EAGLE 4 method.  If I selected a group then I'm doing it to apply a

function to that group.  You can use the Ctrl key to get the right-click

menu back if you need it in that case.

    Cheers,

    James.

I would like to add to Warren's comment, that the eaglerc.usr file can

be modified through the EAGLE command line. Simply type the following:

    SET Option.ToggleCtrlForGroupSelectionAndContextMenu 1;

That way you don't have to go looking for the file in the EAGLE folder

of your C drive. I retract my former comment.

    Jorge Garcia

I hate those menus. Just like I hate how ver 5.8  wants to pan my view

screen with key combinations that I counted on for something else.

I wish that Cadsoft would see fit to make these "improvements" optional,

instead of making them the default operation which needs to be corrected

through some arcane "expert" tweak, if you liked the old way of doing

    things.

Just because something is new or different does not necessarily mean it is

    an improvement.

Eagle used to be something special to me but lately it has become a

whirlwind of useless window dressing, forcing me to adapt to some new,

undesired, program behavior each time I install an "update".

Other people have requested exactly those features long enough to

finally get them... Otherwise, Cadsoft would be blamed to not listen to

the customer requests. You can't serve /all/ people best.

At least EAGLE can be configured to behave the old way resp. to fit your

    personal taste.

Well, if Cadsoft wants to expend their resources on programming a drop down

menu of connectors library parts to get displayed - even after I have moved

to my capacitor library (just for instance),

    or,

if they see fit to show me a "context" menu of undesired commands - even

after I have expressly commanded GROUP > MOVE (for instance instead), then

they have wasted resources going in a direction that I do not want to go.

I don't see the improvement, so maybe I'm not like everybody else.

I also don't see any improvement, and I didn't call for the context

implemented it. As long as I can disable it, that's OK for me. image
