Eagle 7.6.0 constantly crashing - what to do?

I really dont want to jinx this, but for the last 2 days Eagle has been running flawlessly again for me.

Although its nice, its still somewhat of a worry - what was causing the crashes before, and will they come back, and if they do how long before they go away again?

Hmmm,

try to switch off the file locking in the EAGLE Control Panel, in the

menu Options, Backup/Locking. Does it help?

A new Dell Inspiron 13 7000, I7 CPU and 8Gb memory. One week old with only Windows 10, Office Home, Firefox, Thunderbird Eagle 7.6.0 and MPLAB X 3.3.5. That’s it.

Eagle in free mode and a simple circuit 2 x  INA126 and a PIC 16F1847 with a handful of discrete components and connectors. Inconsistencies get reported when I select Autorouter and after checking and fixing all inconsistences in ERC I still get the report. If I ignore the inconsistencies the pop up keeps re-appearing and then the system crashes. I've been doing a regular save all" and still the inconsistencies start.

So far I've made progress by deleting the .brd file and the re making it from the schematic and laying it out again. After a few modifications it starts the inconsistencies thing again and then crashes

Nothing that comes to mind (isn't that the oldest excuse in the book....) Eagle should be the most recent app that I installed.

edit: Probably MPLAB v3.35 has been installed since then, actually. But that would definitely be it.

This morning I updated to Mac OS 10.10.5, but still seeing the same issue.

The first tell-tale signs its about to happen are when I start to see graphical glitches, like that in the attached screenshot. Then, a couple of clicks later, boom - crash. I'm at the stage where I'm constantly saving my work in fear of losing it.

 

I'm really really liking Eagle, and Ive been considering purcashing a license, but if its going to behave like this, I dunno .......

Were there any changes to the system recently? You wrote that EAGLE

worked fine before....

Sadly no, it wouldnt seem to be a memory availability issue. I have 16GB in my Mac, and using only 5-6GB after a reboot it still crashed. This time I was in the PCB editor and was trying to move a component, although I did start to see the graphical glitches in the schematic editor a few minutes prior.

Shame that it is unable to handle that a bit more gracefully. No other application that I'm running has such brutal behaviour.

I do have a few tabs open in Chrome, which is notoriously memory hungry. I'll give it another reboot and try before re-opening Chrome.

This has happened to many others when you run out of memory. Try to close other windows and avoid operations like Ratnest over many connections.
