Issues with 6.5 and MacOS Mavericks

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

Are there configuration work arounds for the following issues ? Configuration is the 6.5.0 version under MacOS 10.9.1

1. The directories in Options/directories appear to be ignored and open always dumps me in the Documents folder. It is possible that Mavericks screws up environment variables, so I tried a fully specified path with no luck. Is there an official way to make this work again ?

2. When adding components the mouse stops dragging the component after the add command is selected. This can be worked around by moving the window slightly and then the component tracks on the schematic or layout field correctly. This is new behavior with Mavericks, so it is likely that Apple in their wonderful competence changed something. Does a work around exist yet ?

Both of these are not show stoppers, but they do get annoying after awhile and probably should be looked at by whomever is doing Cadsoft's Mac support

    Hi Everyone,

If anyone can reproduce or has run into the issues Matt is seeing please

reply. I need to see if I can find something in common between any

reported cases since this is the first report I get of something like this.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

So pleas find a solution fast!!

I have seen odd mouse behavior as well. Component can't be dragged,

lines don't draw with mouse movement, etc. To fix it I do a "Redraw"

and that brings it back to normal operation. Also seems to be a really

long delay after some operations before the mouse will respond.

    I seem to be having issue #2 (components not following the cursor around;

nets not being drawn with cursor movement) as well, although not always.

Although I only installed EAGLE 6.5.0 yesterday, so I haven't had a lot of

time to play around with it, it seems like when EAGLE starts in the

schematic I want to edit, the problem doesn't occur, but when I edit a

library or something like that and then reopen my schematic, the problem

    occurs.

Update: I seem to be able to temporarily remedy the problem by selecting a

group and moving it.  After that, things seem to work normally until I go

and edit a library or something again (I'm not entirely sure what all the

    "or something"s are yet).

I saw more bad behavior with the last layout. Eagle crashed 3 times

during the layout. This is a little vague, but it seemed to crash if

you do something that takes time, like select a group and operate on it

(move, delete, etc). If you move the mouse and click on something

before it is complete (this is obviously done quickly, but sometimes

eagle can take a second or two to complete an operation) it sometimes

crashes. After I made sure operations were complete before moving the

mouse there were no more crashes. I have an i7 mac book pro with 8 megs

    of RAM running mavericks.

I reported #2 months ago, within a few days of Mavericks coming out.  IF

you Cmd-Tab to another app and then back then everything works again.  It's

    a real pain for sure.

As for #1, not sure.  I use all my own directories and that works just like

    it always has.

I was **really** hoping this was resolved in 7.0 (or 7.1) but no joy.  Can anyone tell me a status on when it will be fixed?

It is hugely annoying; Mavericks has been out for a *really* long time and the next OS version will be out soon.

I have all of the issues op mentions.

I waited until I absolutely had to install Mavericks, which was just a couple weeks ago.

I find Eagle is almost un-usable. All of my keyboard shortcuts that use the Option key no longer work either.

    I'm still running 6.5

I wish Cadsoft would fix this stuff. I'm seriously considering making the move to a new software package if they do not.
