How can I make Version 7 default in Windows 7?

Hi Joerg,

right click the file in question, choose "Open with" -> "Select default

program". Everything you need is here, including the "Browse" button on

the lower right corner.

The actual wording might be different, though. My installation does not

show up in english.

But Eagle V7 does not show up when you do that, only V6, and that's my

problem.

As I wrote, that only shows "eagle.exe" and this results in V6 being

opened. V7 does not show up. V7 can only be opened direcvtly or via the

desktop shortcut.

The key is to look at shortcut to find where the program was installed to. Once that is known, the browse will allow you to follow the same paths to that program.

I know where it runs, in Program Files\Eagle7.2.0\bin. However, that

will not show up under browse. Only the V6 location does.

V6 should show up below "Program Files(x86)", not "Program Files". Are

you sure that you looked up the correct directory?

Yes, V6 must be and is in the (x86) directory but not V7. The problem is

that V7 never shows up in any default program selections. So I can't

tell Windows to always use that as the default for *.sch files. That can

make a real mess if I don't notice it and work on libraries.

May-bee I have misunderstood the problem here but Eagle 7 does not (or did not fro me, more correctly) install to program files, but it ended up directly on the root, at c:\

So right click on the schematic file, choose "open with...", make sure the "Always use the selected...." checkbox is selected and then browse manually to the bin folder and select the file named eagle (remember that in later windows the extension does not always show). Check c:\ for an eagle folder.

welcome back here.

I vaguely remember having had about the same problem. In the selection

dialog for the "standard program", only "EAGLE" is shown - without any

version information, and so you can't tell which version to use. Even

worse, even if you explicitly select the path to a particular version,

windows will later still use the previous default.

AFAIK, the cause for this problem are the registry entries that EAGLE

creates during installation. The "program name" (or so) is set

identically for all versions of EAGLE, and windows just picks the first

match when setting the "standard", regardless of the (manually and

explicitly) given path.

I think I changed the values in the registry manually so they were

different... Not perfectly sure, however - it's been some time ago...
