Suggestion for EAGLE

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

EAGLE is the best PCB software package I've used so far, as It's easy to use, simple, and has a wide range of existing libraries. However, one thing that I'd really like to see included in it is some sort of 3D view. This is available on other packages like DIPtrace and Altium designer, but not (that I'm aware of) on EAGLE! Please consider adding this, as it's a really useful feature to visualise your board before production, and it helps in spotting any errors before you send it off!

    Hi Rahul,

there are User Language Programs that allow to generate 3D data.

This are projects initated by EAGLE customers. Please take a look

at the download area of www.cadsoft.de. In the ULP direcotry

    search for

    acis-sat.ulp

ACIS-SAT exports an ACIS model of the PCB as a Standard ACIS Text (SAT)

file in units of inches. The ACIS model includes a 1/16" thick cuboid

(rectangular slab) with holes. Importing this type of model into a CAD

package is useful for enclosure design. The vector-based nature of the

file enables importing CAD packages to support snapping to PCB features

including hole centers. Many 3D CAD packages support SAT files

including AutoCAD, Inventor, CADKEY, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, IronCAD

    and more.

    generate_3d_data.ulp and generate_3d_data_eng.pdf

ULP for generating 3d data for 3D-MCAD systems and the help file

of Generate 3D Data translated to English. File format:

    IDF3.0 (IDB:board, IDL:libary)

Uploaded by Neubacher Andreas <a.neubacher at commend.com> from

    Commend International GmbH

    3d_ulp.zip

Making PRO Engineer 3D assembly files from EAGLE files using IDF and DXF.

    Documentation and example are included.

Works with EAGLE 5.11 and ProEngineer WF5

There are two further projects available in the internet:

3D data for PovRay (rendering program)

    ==> http://www.matwei.de

EAGLE meets SketchUp -- turn your Eagle layouts into 3D models

    ==> http://eagleup.wordpress.com/

    Please check.

    Regards,

    Richard

    Hi Rahul,

    check out EAGLE-to-3D and IDF-to-3D:

    http://www.pcb-pool.com/ppuk/info_idfto3d.html

get a 3D PDF, a STEP file for your MCAD guys and a OBJ+MTL file for rendering:

I have just had the opportunity to give the new IPROCircuit from Italian software company Fronema, a test drive.

And boy, am I impressed! In this new release, targeted at the recently available IronCAD 2015, there is native Eagle support:

A custom ULP does all the work that previously required going through SketchUp/EagleUp, and with a few mouse clicks I can now import my Eagle creations into the 3D realm of IronCAD.

There are a bunch of easy-to-use features to help me handle component librarys, what to import (or to avoid), replace individual components (in case a package is missing, and I have a similar replacement), and much more.

Of course, this requires that You already have and are using IronCAD, but if you don't, it might be worth the switch :-)

The current information about IPROCircuit at Fronemas web doesn't yet mention this new version (v17), and the screenshots and videos are from a previous version, but I expect that to change soon.

If you are serious about working in 3D with your Eagle boards, you should definitely have a look at IPROCircuit.
