Generate Outputs not using entire page

adamwebber
adamwebber over 7 years ago

Something happened recently to my CS.  The PDF outputs are now filling a small portion of page.  I don't know what's going on.  I tried changing default prints scaling among other things.  It doesn't matter if it's an existing project or a new one.  Everything just changed somehow along the way.  Can anyone help?

Hi James, assuming you are using Project | Generate outputs a few obvious things to check.

For PCB Prints click Page Setup and check the scaling, paper size and corrections.

Might also be worth deleting (move or rename) your project's *.OutJob file and then re-define the print properties and re-generate the output. Another thought, have you installed any PDF printer driver software or similar recently?

Yes, I am using Generate Outputs for the PDF creation.

A Couple of things to note:

1-The error has taken place since I installed a new Epson ET-3750 printer but I cannot be certain as to the exact time that the error began.  Whether it was before or after the printer was installed.

2-I did have the size set up as Letter.  Changing it to A4 has made no difference.

3-Selecting 'Fit Document on Page' does not fix the problem.

4-Deleting the *.Outjob file and recreating it makes no difference.

5-Starting a new project from scratch makes no difference.

My next step is to completely remove CS and reinstall it.  I don't really want to do this since I like my current template and UI settings and I don't want to have to reconstruct or relocate them.

I guess it is possible installing printer software has disturbed something. You could try a new installation to a different folder to save having to uninstall your current version, there is an option when installing to select a directory so just pick something a little different than the default. Another (rather random) idea is to check that your .Net framework hasn't been clobbered, see Error launching Layer Stack Manager  for some hints of repairing.

This will be caused by a printer driver, I have seen it before as it used to happen rarely for Altium Designer as well, Epson drivers in particular seemed to be the most common.

Sometimes you can correct it by reviewing the Page Size options for the printer driver or changing which printer is the Default within Windows.

I have seen it corrected by installing a new generic print driver and setting that as default.

If you uninstall the new printer, and then relaunch CircuitStudio you should be able to see if this corrected it.  If so, check to see if there are other drivers available for the printer that you can try, and also check the settings for that Printer within Windows to make sure the available page sizes are set properly.

Reinstalling or modifying CircuitStudio likely will not help here.

Your advice is sound but I don't know how to fix this.  I first tried changing to another default printer with no improvement.  Then I uninstalled the driver with no improvement.  Then I restarted my computer with no improvement.  Then I installed a generic driver with no improvement.  I reinstalled the driver with no improvement.  I'm not sure what I need to do now.  Why does CS need to use the printer drivers?

It's quite possible that uninstalling the printer didn't undo everything. Do you have a system restore point just before installing the printer for the first time that you can roll back to?

Are there any other printers installed?  (including PDF printers) I have also seen their settings get corrupted in a situation like this, and we had to remove the printer that initially caused the issue, remove the PDF Print Driver, reboot, reinstall the "problem" driver, and install the PDF driver afterwards.  I only saw that situation once.

Another thing to try, go into your System Preferences in the System Page under General settings, click on the PDF Export Settings and add the Page Sizes you want to use in PDF.  This was something we put in after a few problematic PDF Print Drivers were going around to allow us to override the settings.  Put in the page sizes you prefer here, and you should be able to select and use them for output.

I am also experiencing this issue with an HP 8600 driver version 10.0.16299.15 attempting to print to Legal size paper.  Circuit Studio version 1.4.1 (Build 99) continues to scale the page to -Letter- size.  Schematic Print Properties show I have everything set right, scaled right, and that Circuit Studio "sees" a Legal Page (14000x8500), but still won't scale to a legal size sheet, and continues to scale as if CS sees a Letter size page.image

Notice Print preview shows a legal size page and Print Properties shows scaling of 0.99, and Preview shows it thinks it's looking at a legal size 14000x8500 page.  Still CS refuses to resize output to fit the page for printing, wasting all the extra paper and making it difficult to read.

Element 14 Support mentioned this thread, so I'm here looking, but don't see anything helpful.  This still looks like a Circuit Studio bug.

Hi Craig, worth trying to force a scaling factor for your prints to see if this makes any difference.

Another option to try - use the Project | Generate Outputs command option to create a PDF at A4 size (or some size that works and fills the page) and then simply print the PDF with scaling.

    E14...

I tried this method and it does not fix the issue.  I tried scaling at 1.01 and 0.99 (among other larger and smaller scalings).  Ask the developers to download the printer drivers and see what happens.  Tell us how to fix it.  One thing that you might notice is that the PDF no longer lines up with the parts.  Before I was able to click on the parts and see the information about the components.  Now that the page has shrunk, if I go to click on a component, I must guess on where it would be if the page were full-size.  This is quite troubling.  Have the developers of Altium found a fix for this?
