Has everone exPired in here?

Well all the schools are back. Raspberry Pi shipments seem to be going pretty swimmingly now. I really expected this place to be hot enough with discussions to bake a Pi. (Sorry all) image

Seriously, what is everybody up to I am still working hard on improving my soldering skills and pushing the Pi to its limits whenever I can.

Dark nights drawing in now so peering up to the night sky takes over from solder school soon.

Have fun all.

I'm waiting for the last two obscure HDMI/USB double-female adapters to arrive from China so I can build a RasPi Lapdock like Drew Fustini.

If I can assemble it and get it working by 29 September, I'll take it to the Hackspace Tour in San Francisco.  I'm looking forward to meeting RasPi Forum regulars Jim Manley and W. H. Heydt.  Liz has asked me to be nice to Rob Bishop, but I' m sure she's warned him to beware of anyone who looks remotely like Jules Verne.

While I'm waiting, I'm blasting ahead with Chicken Coop.

I'm waiting on a double h-bridge chip from america and my gertboard from E14.  School Holidays are starting this friday in Aus, so looking foreward to experimenting with my Raspberry Pi and GPIO ports.

I've been on holiday with a lack of internet connectivity - a sad thing indeed !

I'm thinking of making one of my Pi's a permanent media player (using RaspBMC) and for the other, I need to build my Slice of Pi from Ciseco and then I will be doing a bit of Arduino like interfacing.

I know this is a pi forum, but i'll also be getting my Nanode (Networked Arduino) up and running again now the colder times are here and working in my computer room isn't like working in a small furnace :-)

My first Pi is quite content to be a media pc with RASPBMC. I was recently told I'm not allowed to buy any computer related items for a while. I'll give it a few more weeks before getting started on an imbedded pc project. I'm sure ill have plenty of questions . My electronics skills far exceed my programming knowledge.

    Hi John

Chicken Coop certainly looks like a major project. Seems to have a terrific set of goals. I am surprised you can find time to bake at all.

I also liked the idea of Drews Lapdock or a Kindle(Pindle?). image Funny because the wife thinks more bedroom furniture is my top priority at the moment. image

Hope you have a great time at Hackspace.

Sounds like you got a lot of fun coming up Fergus. Good luck with those projects. I am still stumbling about deciding on either the Pi + Gertboard against a Pi + Arduino + Processing combination. Maybe after Christmas I'll be able to have my Pi and eat it. image

Good to see you back with Internet connection again then Steve. image Funny you should mention furnaces. I have just be reading on RPi.org site about the abilty now to monitor the internal temp of the SOC on the Pi and "official" overclocking. So we can now use our Pi's to monitor their own internal furnace temps. It all looks quite useful actually. image

The overclocking story is a hoot.  They expect us to believe that

    a 43% overclock (1000/700=1.43) results in a 75% benchmark

    improvement for LU decomposition (135.12/77.374=1.75).

I suspect there's something they aren't telling us, like maybe they

used a newer version of gcc for the faster timings.

Thanks for starting this thread.  It reminds me of how from time to time someone on my hackerspace mailing list will start a thread called 'what you've been hacking' and everyone chimes in with their projects.

A couple a days ago I received new connectors for my Atrix lapdock which has resulted in a more compact setup.  I added photos to my post Raspberry Pi laptop.

I wrote a blog post about the beer brewing group at my hackerspace which is using a Pi to monitor and automatically control temperature: Brewing beer with Raspberry Pi

I also added a push button to my real-time clock display which displays the temperature for a few seconds when pressed:

I've also created an init script to launch the Python script so that it automatically starts up when the Pi is powered on.  I'll write a blog post about this soon.

Finally, I wanted to give the new Turbo mode a try, so I upgraded a July Raspbian image to the latest software and firmware rather than downloading the new image.  I wrote a blog post about how I did this: Upgrade to Turbo mode without reflashing

    Cheers,

    Drew

I have been working elsewhere setting up a blog to better document my experiences.

    http://raspberrypihobbyist.blogspot.com/

I will try to visit here regularly now to get involved in a broader range of discussions.
