Interface old laptop camera with RasPi

Hey guys,

I have recently salvaged two old laptops and got my hands on two webcam modules, but I cannot find out the pinouts for these modules.

1. How could I determine which connections are which without destroying the modules ??

2. Does anyone have information on the pinout of these devices ??

I am suspecting that the modules are directly connected as a usb device so the pinouts would be vcc, gnd, d+, d- and nothing for the 5th pin. On the second module the connections should be the same, but there is a smd led looking thing sticking through the copper tape and maybe the 5th connection could be the power line for the led. Just a thought.

Pictures of the modules:

The numbers on these modules are:

#1: CNF6037

#2: GD M812

Any help is appreciated, since I am not so knowledgable in electronics it would be really cool if I could learn about finding out about the pins.

Thanks.

Yes the majority are in fact USB cams, to be honest a lot of the other peripherals on the laptops such as Keyboards and touch pads are also USB.

They obviously must have the chipsets for the desktop peripherals and there is simply no point in having silly custom interfaces.

As far as pin outs are concerned I think you need to apply some intelligent guess' for the ground and power then from there look for the D+,D-

This stuff is good for robot use as well!
