I am a newbie on Raspberry Pi model B. My first Raspberry Pi "project" is to simply record live audio using a USB mic. But the alsa soundcard/audio driver seems to have some problem with the built-in recording tool, arecord. The following is my test script/report. Please help!
#export ALSADEV="plughw:1,0"
#arecord -D plughw:1,0 -r 16000 -f s16_LE helloworld.wav
The arecord gives no error messages. I use <ctrl-c> to stop recording after speaking a few words.
when I played the recorded audio file on a PC (using Audacity), it sounds about twice fast than my original speech. If I do a "raw" import and force the sound editor to treat the audio file as in 8KHz, when I playback the file, it sounds about twice slow!!!
Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? To make sure my USB mic is ok, I connected it to my PC (running W7 Enterprise) and then use Audacity to record it. The recorded audio file sounds just fine.
I also tried "-r 8000" option, I got the same result: the recorded audio file sounds about twice fast than my original speech.
I tried all possible combinations of parameters for arecord. The results are all the same. I tried all these tests on the Raspberry OS 3.6.11+ (08-30-2013 release). Then, I installed the latest version, 3.10.25+ (01-03-2014). I repeated all the tests above and got the same results.
