I am looking to make a Gameboy type device and would like to add a cartridge function to it so I was wondering if I could use a pcb card edge connector for this?
If not is there anything else I could use?
Thanks

Can you be little more specific?
What do you mean by more specific?
Well, is the raspberry pi the host (console)? and if so, what is the cartridge likely to contain?
yes the raspberry pi would be the host, I was thinking the cartridge could contain a retro game or something like mame
Well if that's what you're aiming to achieve, you might want to read this article

They use USB sticks to transfer the ROMs, though you could experiment with taking the pins from a USB stick to the pins of a card edge connector, or even putting some EEPROM onto a board with an edge connector. The card edge receptacles are commonly available. e.g.. http://uk.farnell.com/te-connectivity-amp/5-5530843-0/connector-card-edge-rcpt-20pos/dp/2396188

It's interesting as an Idea but a bit useless unless you specifically need to use an old style cart for some reason.
Otherwise you would get a much simpler and reliable connector using the USB and say a memory stick and have 1000's of games on it for a few bucks
I would've thought the same, but the question related to card-edge connectors so I thought I'd personalise my answer around this approach.
