Raspberry Pi 2 model B 1 GB hdmi sound problem

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Got two of them and same problem on both with several hdmi tv(s). Older Pi worked fine on both tv(s). Headphone jack works fine. Used Python Games to switch as well as sudo raspi-com-fig.

Wait.  Using g the headphone jack?  I believe there was a change to that setup after the first model B.  Something to do with 4 contacts on the jack I stead of 3 (although I think it was more for video and sou d than just sound).  I believe if you pick up one of those special video cables like what most in car systems have, you would be okay.

    Hi Bill

Have you got into raspi-config and set the option to Force Audio out through HDMI?

A detailed instruction is available here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/audio-config.md

There is also an instruction at the end of the document that you could also try titled "IF YOU'RE STILL NOT GETTING SOUND VIA HDMI"

yes did raspi-config from force hdmi to headphones and headphones worked then back to raspi-config to force hdmi and no it did not work

also tried Python Game sound output and got the same reactions. Also tried some suggestions that involved sudo ... which didn't work.

    Bill,

Take a look at http://www.element14.com/community/community/raspberry-pi/raspberrypi2/blog/2015/03/19/see-my-new-pi-2-next-what-should-we-do, It explains the situations of the new Pi 2 may have if the wrong software is installed. I would be glad to assist if you have more questions. One think, are you using the HDMI jack for sure? Because I have directions on composite jack.

    Clem

    Thanks

I thought this op system could be the problem as I had downloaded it from web on card for my first RPi 2 but for second one - I got the Pi 2 model B camera kit with a Rpi updated 8 gb chip and all is working well except the HDMI sound as indicated above. I can do a jack amplified speaker set with the HDMI screen so that is a solution for now but would love to take new Pi 2 on the road and use other HDMI units (carry least amount of hardware idea) For the old smaller gb Pi - I had no problems with HDMI and I am using the same tv and another (different brand) to try to be sure it's not that. I'm out of town for a few days but will look for others having same problem when back - Thanks you all !

    Hello

    I have the same problem.

    Audio does not work

With larger TV it works but not smaller.

    Jack does not work.

Other parties commented that on load, error is thrown reading tv.

    So it is an issue.

Please start a new question, since your jack does not work.

    Thanks

    In regards to:

Please start a new question, since your jack does not work.

    Response.

My HDMI does not work for my smaller HDMI  tv.

SO I still have an issue.

The PI is an element14 PI

So I still have a HDMI sound problem

    Plus

    I have a jack problem

These  issues must be tied together.

The resolution other people on the net is to find a HDMI device that works.

I could not find that again

    but i have this

I gave F T 's  larger TV solution a try on the largest tv I have (32" insignia) and got the same ( HDMI no sound ) results I list above with a change from jack ( inland $4.00 headset yes sound ) to forced HDMI using both the sudo raspi-config change and the Python Game sound output change way with no difference. NO HDMI SOUND for me - So what is it with F T 's big set solution for HDMI and my cheep headphone solution for JACK.
