We are very excited to introduce the all new Raspberry Pi Pico, a tiny, $4, MicroPython and C/C++ board with custom RP2040 silicon.

This is the first product from the Raspberry Pi Foundation built with their in house designed RP2040.

At $4 and available individually or even available on reels, this Raspberry Pi is the next step in home and industrial products.

Looking at the edge of the PCB you can see the Raspberry Pi Pico has been designed to be used with header pins or soldered directly onto your products PCB.

    I know they are available elsewhere but I wanted to spend money from Project14 getting a bunch of them... Maybe not 25 but a few. image

    And there is some kind of a problem with Pico on Polish Farnell - the search bar can't find it, it can't be found by number, when I got to the product site from this article it was first unavailable, than available in future, after delivery, than unavailable again and now there is only information that there is no price or availability information.

    As you show, the build process does indeed produce a range of file formats, including .hex!

    Is there something you are seeing that I am not?

     

    From the build I have run, not only is a .uf2 file create, but a .hex, bin, dis, and .elf files are created. This is noted in Chapter 7 of the Getting Started guide.

    Note regarding the UF2  (USB  Flashing  Format) :

    UF2 (USB Flashing Format) is a file format, developed by Microsoft, that is used for flashing the RP2040 board overUSB. More details can be found on the

    Everything i have read about this board in documentation is good enough. But only thing which can trouble us during the course of development is in near future is the absence of support of *.hex or *.bin file. Raspberry Pi Pico board designers should work out this issue immediately.

    Another interesting insight is that the companies Raspberry PI brought in early were both product designers as well as being product resellers. In other words, this would be similar to what AVNET achieved, working with Microsoft to develop and resell the Azure Sphere products.... although I suspect there were a lot more meetings involved (and probably NDA's signed too).
