PiFace Digital II on a PI2, Windows 10 IoT and a cool demo

At the time of writing, Robert Peter Oakes noticed there weren't any libraries for the PiFace Digital II's chip in Windows 10 IoT Core, so he made his own!     The windows 10 for IoT is also NOT a desktop replacement PI Linux users tend to be using it for either a low cost Light weight desktop replacement, or as a learning platform for C, Python, Java and other…

    I'm sorry to say that there are lies damn lies statistics and worst of all SDCard speeds unfortunately if you want real good speeds you either need UHS 3 or better still emmc

    The real shame was this was bought a long time ago for a use that never happened. I dug it up from a container buried at the bottom. Would anyone pay $30 for 1 GB? I think not LOL, Clem

    Well it actually is a good card and it was very well reviewed. It was just a compatibility issue with windows 10 IoT Core. The writespeed of the kingston card I previously used was way higher. With this card I got 10 MB/s, whereas with the kingston I got the 80MB/s promised. The read speed is great though at 80MB/s. It's still a fast card.

    Never judge a card by it cover (or price) imageimage YMMV when you buy these cards.

    It was a problem with my µSD Card. I bought a different µSD and it worked just fine. It's a 16GB SanDisk Ultra 533X UHS-1 card. One of the by microsoft recommended µSD cards.

    sure they work on the pi2, but I haven't seen posts where those are tested on the pi 3, except from microsoft itself. Could you perhaps give me a link of a post of someone using the image on the pi3?

    I have tried the latest IOT image, both the Insider Preview and the public one on a PI2 with and without NOOBS, they both work perfectly, I have seen posts where this is tested on PI 3 with equal success so I'm pretty sure the image is OK

    As I expected, Raspbian did boot (in a matter of seconds). I'm now 99.9% certain it's a problem with windows 10 IoT Core. Maybe they uploaded the wrong file haha.

    Well, it's not the official one, but it is an adapter I bought bundled with it. I did just try another adapter from my brother which is a JBL charger rated at 2.5A 5V and left out all the periferals except the hdmi cable, but it also got stuck at

    "Welcome to Windows 10 IoT Core

    Please wait while we get things ready".

    It only showed the big one when I tried the image for the offical release version for the raspberry pi 2, which is expected, since it's not made for the raspberry pi 3.

    As I said, NOOBS did work and raspbian would probably have booted as well if I had installed that (again, I can't be entirely sure until I try it.), so I don't suspect it's a problem with my SD-Card.

    If it is the BIG one then its not even starting the boot process so perhaps the SD Card has an issue

     

    I have never had an issue with the very first part of booting

     

    if you have the official adapter then your probably OK for power

    It's the big Rainbow square in the middle. I'm doubting it's a power issue as I'm using a 5V 2A power supply that I bought bundled with the Raspberry Pi and NOOBS did work. I can try another power supply tomorow, but I'm almost certain it won't do a thing (although I can't be absolutely positive.). I did have a mouse connected besides the HDMI-cable, but I don't think that should matter, but I'll try it without the mouse as well.

    Hmmm, if your seeing the rainbow square is it the BIG one at the beginning or the smaller one top right

     

    With way I am beginning to suspect you may have a power supply issue, for the PI, they are very tempermental about the power supply, you need a good quality power lead and wall wort. 5V @ 2A is a good start, you can get away with less but you will soon run out of available power. Do you have other accessories plugged in when you booting up, if so remove everything except the video and the power of course. If you see anything other than the first BIG splash rainbow then your power is still an issue. (Most lightly)
