Introduction
My project for the LED Roadtest+ was named Illuminated Multirotor and this post will finally give some info about my latest tricopter.
This is my third tricopter build and the first one built using carbon fibre parts and integrated flight controller. For this one I ordered parts from David Windestål at RCExplorer.se. His Tricopter 2.5 build was inspiration for me to enter the hobby and the first RC vehicle I built 3 years ago. Buying the kit from him was a chance for me say thank you.
LED strip mount
I repurposed the old Chinese umbrella wires to make a lightweight wireframe mount for my WS2812B LED strip Wires were painted black to match the Tricopter body.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures during the wireframe build. I only have post-build pictures.
LED strip mount was attached using metal clips (also made from umbrella parts). These clips make it easy to attach/detach the mount to/from tricopter body:
LED strip was carefully attached to the wireframe mount using zip ties:
This is how it ended up. I'm very satisfied with the outcome:
Future work
LED strip is not where it ends when it comes to illuminating this tricopter.
I ordered some high brightness LED from Würth Elektronik and matching boards from Ebay. I will use these LEDs to make strong headlights.
