Linux or windows to develop on FPGA ?

Hi, Is there any FPGA evaluations boards compatible with windows and others with linux, or all FPGA cards are compatible with the two environment. Best regards,

What kind of FPGA work do you want to do ? The price of eval boards ranges from about £10 to >>£10k MK

The only restriction I've seen is building PetaLinux for Xilinx parts which requires Linux - although a VM will do the job. I'd go for whatever OS you feel more comfortable with.

Xilinx, Intel (Altera), Lattice and Microsemi (Actel) all have FPGA design suites that work on either Windows or Linux. Some eval boards are intended to run Linux.

You need to define your project in a bit more detail for me to make a good recommendation of FPGA.

A block diagram would help.

It's also helpful to know if you have any experience with FPGA development and if it is a commercial, academic or home project.

If you are staring out I would advise you to avoid FPGAs with embedded processors (soft or hard) running Linux or any other operating system because you will very little about FPGA and a lot about the OS.

There are very cheap dev boards for all the major FPGA types and manufacturers.
