    Hi Manzel,

     

    I've used programmable logic since the 1970's and it's not has hard as you think. Just focus upon what you want to do - that is:

         Layout or describe your logic design

         Validate your design

         Select a suitable part

         Assign Pins

         Burn, test & use

     

    The extra fluff such as fitters, synthesisers, are usually vendor dependent and seemingly complex but you can lump abstract them and not to lose focus from your task.

     

    Starting with ancestor tool such as PALASM, ABEL or CUPL and becoming familiar with them is a great start.

    MicroChip WinCUPL is available from PLD Design Resources | Microchip Technology

    It can be used with easy to use SPLD and CPLDs.

     

    Once you've successfully made a few parts, you can then easily convert your design to VHDL, Verilog or schematic capture and build the part using the contemporary programmable logic tools.

    (You'll also find that the new tools aren't as efficient and may require a slightly more capacious part).

     

    One thing with programmable logic parts is that they are have been and are still damned expensive!!
