Need to replace resistor 900 ohms / % Tolerance

Hello there,

I need to replace this resistor which appears to be a 900 ohm with a % tolerance. (4 rings = Black / White / Red / Silver or Grey and around 25mm long)

I bought one with almost same features (OHMITE OX102KE Through Hole Resistor, 1K ohm, OX, 1W, ±10%, Axial, 300V) but it doesn't fit, it's far too small compare to the one I need to replace. Do you have any suggestion where to buy or how to replace it ?

    thx for the quick reply, I'm not an expert so apologize if I misunderstand. :-)
    The mother board indicate 1V and booth resistors are made for 1V.
    Should I measure something else?

    That response doesn't make sense - if you're referring to the writing - V1.0 means version 1.0. Or do you mean you measured 1V over the resistor (which seems to be rated 1kOhm, 10% tolerance)?

    Do you have the bill of materials for the board? Or a list of parts that indicates the power rating of the original resistor? This is in watts. Common resistor sizes are 1/4W, 1/2W, 1W, 2W, 5W, 10W, 25W etc. You might be able to guess by physical size, but that is not always reliable. If the existing one you have is too physically small and you are concerned it doesn't have enough power rating, you might just opt to order one with a larger power rating as it will be physically larger.

    When replacing resistors, you don't only need to match the ohms rating and have equal or better tolerance. You also need to have equal or greater power rating and equal or better voltage rating as well. Some resistors also serve special functions (e.g. fusible resistors) which must be replaced with the same type to maintain safety.

    The original resistor doesn't look like 900R to me. It looks like Black, White, Red which is 1900 ohms.

    It looks as if it has got hot, but how do you know it has failed ?

    What resistance does it measure ?

    Do you have the schematic and parts list with values  for the board - without those thingsmay go badly wrong.

    I do not have the bill of materials for the board, could I measure the power rating from the board directly ?

    No. Power ratings cannot be measured from the board. You need to understand what the resistor is doing and the circuitry to be able to reverse engineer the power rating requirement if you don't know the exact part that is needed.

    about the ohms,don't you see 4 rings ? why do you think there is only 3?

    Eh, isn't a black band a zero? Brown would be 1. But then I've not seen resistors start with Black bands (unless they're zero-ohm) as the first band should be the first significant digit.

    Perhaps it is discoloured or marked in some way that is a little different.

    Sorry, Brain Fart on my part.

    I think we don't know the value of that resistor !

    092 with a silver tolerance band !

    Measure it would be best.

    Or tell us what the baord does and show a picture of more of it  - might be possible to work out what its for and thus waht value makes most sense.
