Good Evening Element 14 members and visiting guests!
First off I would like to apologize on the lack of blogs lately, when this Challenge was first put forth and I came up with my idea my biggest concern was getting everything ready for the upcoming Holidays and incoming family travelling from out of state. This Challenge fit right into some of our plans and I still believe will be a great tool.
Sadly since the Challenge went forth my genetic Father passed away where we ended up traveling to another State for his memorial and to meet up with family I have rarely seen and whom my children have never met.
Barely a little over a month after that I received a call in the late night telling me my Stepfather had passed away. Our family has spread out a bit since we all left the nest and I am the closest to his home with a 5 hour drive. I ended up picking up one of my siblings from the Airport and emergency driving up there to meet with the Coroner, Police Department and numerous other officials to get my Stepfather taken care of.
Since then I was able to organize a burial with full Military Honors and Religious requirements taken care of locally here near my home. It is sad that it takes a loss to remind of us of how much we have in the way of family, regardless of blood or name family is family. With my Stepfather being the oldest of 17 kids there was a lot of family to contact and work with and it was humbling to see so many people fly out at a moment's notice and help out on such a sad and unexpected event. We are still in the lengthy process of taking care of the estate and this will probably be a work in progress for a bit.
Currently I have some time on hand where I am recreating some of my earlier work and adding to it new ideas so please don't be surprised by a slew of new blogs coming up! In addition I look forward to anyone who may have suggestions for additional options or software as I am finding some of the key items a little outdated and if others know of newer I would love to try and add them into this build.
Thank you, and onto the Installation of the Gourmet Software:
I had read multiple Linux recipe reviews speaking about this software so I want to try and see how it works with our Raspberry PI3.
Please feel to check out their Github location: http://thinkle.github.io/gourmet/
One of the main items that interested me was the potential for cross platform use! Ideally the KCON will be the ultimate kitchen tool but being able to share over to others limited to Windows or Mac OS would be nice.
Free is also a big bonus. So clicking on their download link brings me to...
As you can see you can download source code as well as a Windows Install package. Always nice to have easy access to source code!
It doesn't appear to have been updated in a bit (Jun 5, 2014) so I will look and see if anything newer has popped up that might be useful/popular. And if any of you readers have came across something please feel free to share over to me.
Just because I like to look around a little before I jump in I click on their Wiki tab to see what they offer. Pretty straight forward with a link over to an INSTALL.md.
Hmm, "chances are that there is Gourmet package available in your system's software repository that lets you install Gourmet easily."
Okay Challenge accepted! Easy over Hard every time. Well most of the time, I have to admit some nights where I prefer to hand walk installs to better understand how something is being put into play, but tonight I am showing the easiest path to allow anyone else to follow along and build their own KCon.
So quick drop over to command line and I enter " sudo apt-get install gourmet "
Sure enough instant processing, updating and installing! Woohoo.
So a quick check under Accessories shows our new program, Gourmet ready to run!
Here it is, sadly nothing by default is loaded to show off the potential use of this and myself not being a chef aside from a mean Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich really do not have much to hand enter in the section. So further research is upcoming!
Just a quick verification to share of the details. I look forward to sharing more on the inputting of recipes, preferably from a source that will allow a variety of new recipes.
As I have said earlier, if anyone has came across an app that can run with our linux build and think it would be worthy to test with this let me know, if you have heard of some recipe sources as well feel free to share that. My first foray into looking for potential sources references Recipezaar which bounces me to www.geniuskitchen.com. I will have to explore this site and see if it actually allows me to pull files I can use or if I need newer links.
Treasure the moments you have with your Family and loved ones...
