Intro
In the last bog I explored displaying text in 2 different ways:
- a 2 channel vertical split
- and an X-Y plot
This time I am exploring displaying text as a raster image (composite video) on the Digilent Analog Discovery 3.
Digital scopes are not great at this task, but it is fun to see how they fare...
New Content - 2 Channel Split Display
Before getting into the raster display video, here is an updated scope display of "element14" on the AD3 as a 2 channel split display - trying to get the colors to be a bit more accurate. The AD3 allows full control over the trace colors, but how they turn out in the camera depends a lot on the ambient lighting. If you look closely you will see the image data is cleaned up a bit as well.

Discussion
It is pretty hairy to display raster images on a digital scope, but it sort of works.
The raster display turned out better than my expensive scope and there is a lot more flexibility to size it on the big screen.
For more info on the little composite raster-to-scope circuit board see my Cinema-Scope blog.
As mentioned previously, this instrument is a blast to play around with.
