5 Highlighted Members of the Year
Some day he'll need to share his secret to stretching out the days to allow for more work, because Jan Cumps contributes across the community with excellent blogs, RoadTest reviews, helpful comments, and more.
One of the most supportive members we have on element14, DAB is active all over the community providing expertise and encouragement, answering questions and giving helpful feedback on other members' work. Our programs benefit so much from the support of members like DAB.
One of our strongest contributors in RoadTests & Reviews, Design Challenges, and more, dougw demonstrates and shares his exceptional knowledge both in the work he produces and his contributions supporting other members in their work.
One person in the rather exclusive club of element14's Members of the Year, shabaz has been a mainstay on element14 for as long as I've been here, and much longer than that, too. His contributions in blogging, reviewing, and commenting are some of the best we have.
Highly active writing personal blogs about his projects, reviewing products for RoadTest, and much much more, fmilburn did fantastic work on the community in 2021, worthy of recognition as one of our most valuable members of the year.
We recognized ten fantastic members whose contributions in 2021 amazed us and helped make the community as vibrant as it is.
Design Challenger of the Year 2021
In 2021, we ran Design Challenges around creating devices to help those with different needs, making IoT systems work with low power, and more, and one member's contributions stood out as the best. Check out the roundup e14phil wrote to see who won!
Project14 Projects of the Year 2021
We have a tie! And it's fitting, because these are two fantastic pieces of work from two great members. For the DIY Test Instrumentation challenge, shabaz worked on viewing noise with a measurement amplifier, and (also for DIY Test Instrumentation) Andrew J built an Instrument Control Board. Hats off to these two great contributions, and all the other submissions for Project14 in 2021 that made it such a creative program.
The Best element14 presents Video Project of the Year
We asked for the community's votes on this award, and it's great that the DIY Star Trek Tricorder built by baldengineer was the winner, because it was made as part of our Build Inside the Box competition, an experiment for element14 presents where VCPs and members received the same kit of parts and got to work putting their own spin on things. Congratulations, James!
The Favorite RoadTested Products of 2021
As someone who works closely with rscasny on the RoadTests & Reviews program, I'm always amazed at the variety and quality of products we get to have the community review. And 2021 was no slouch in this regard, with so many great RoadTests launched that I kind of can't believe we finished them all? Click over to see Randy's roundup of the best in 2021!
The Best RoadTest Reviews of 2021
And the ultimate goal of a RoadTest, of course, is to generate in-depth product reviews that put these pieces of gear through their paces. So rscasny rounded up his favorite reviews of 2021, and also recognized the members who created them. Check out his roundup!
Project14 Decider, Founder, and Influencer of the Year 2021
Project14 involves our members in running the competitions more than our traditional Design Challenges; to take one example, members create the monthly competition themes. So we wanted to recognize these types of contributions! Decider of the Year, for being an outstanding judge in competitions, went to fmilburn. Founder of the Year, for the best ideas for new monthly competition themes, was Jan Cumps. And Influencer of the Year, for the most influential project contributions, goes to robogary. Congratulations to all three of these great winners!
We produce a lot of educational content on element14, and with Webinars, Training and Events we work to find interesting topics and engaging and knowledgeable presenters. And it fit right in with our Summer of FPGA program to host a webinar around getting started with FPGAs, with panelists from AMD, Microchip, Lattice Semiconductor, and Avnet Boards Community. The event drew a strong and engaged crowd, and you can view the recording of the webinar at the link above!
