The names were selected, the votes were cast, and now the results are in! Thanks to all the nominees, everyone who voted, and really everyone who contributed in 2018. You all make this community what it is! And now, the moment you've been waiting for, it's time to announce the winners.

MEMBER OF THE YEAR - dixonselvan

An e14 member since 2014, Dixon's contributions in 2017 were exceptional, and he wasn't one to rest on his laurels, following that up with an even better 2018. He was a participant in Design for a Cause with an excellent and unique project, a frequent contributor to Project14, he submitted multiple RoadTest reviews, and was a frequent community contributor with both helpful tips and encouragement. And his work in 2018 really speaks for itself, so check out some of his highlights:

Cue System for Anosmia and Smart WheelChair #11 - Machine Learning and Demo [Completed]

Cypress PSoCRegistered 6 BLE Pioneer Kit (CY8CKIT-062-BLE) - Review

With Pi Chef, we wanted to challenge our members to use the Raspberry Pi in a place they might not have considered: their kitchens! And James O'Gorman answered the call, as he built a truly smart 40" range hood. He included custom sheet metal, 3D printed enclosures, thermal imaging courtesy of the Panasonic Grid Eye, and custom PCBs for the specially made sensor array enclosure to protect the electronics.

And, on top of all that hardware, was an interactive app that controls the fans, and a touchscreen display on the range hood for interacting with it, featuring the ever popular "Summon Husband" button. The judges were impressed with the array of skills James exhibited, from design, coding, NodeRed, Fabrication, 3D printing, and PCB design. James also documented his fails as well as his victories, and gave us amazing insights into the design and build process.

I was lucky enough to attend CES this year, and walking the floor confirmed what I had already suspected: people love robots! I also observed: people love vehicles! This edition of Project14 smashed those concepts together and resulted in some wonderful projects, like Carmelito's CupRobot in the video above, RoboBobLet by Dubbie Dubbie, Sean Miller's R2D2, and more, and we might even see this theme again in 2019 given how many votes it earned.

e14 PRESENTS PROJECT OF THE YEAR - FPGA "Game Genie" for Atari 2600, andywest

Did you have a Game Genie at some point in your history with video games? There's no shame in admitting it! The "Game Genie" line of cheat devices was released for several consoles back in the early 90s, but they never made one for the Atari 2600, since by that time the console was obsolete. Andy West traveled back in time and used an FPGA to build the video game accessory that never was, one that was surely missed by many Atari gamers back in the day, and it was the community's favorite build in 2018.

ROADTEST REVIEW OF THE YEAR - R&S RTM3K-COM4 OSCILLOSCOPE, Gough Lui

image

The RTM3K-COM4 we offered in this RoadTest was a "Beast of an Oscilloscope," to quote Mark Archibald, and giving it the review it deserved would be no small task. But we weren't surprised when Gough Lui delivered this highly informative, in-depth review, as he's been a great contributor to RoadTest and to the broader community, so it's a well deserved honor that he wrote our review of the year.

Congratulations to all of our winners, and thanks again to everyone who cast their votes! We look forward to more amazing contributions from this group of members in 2019, and to those esteemed winners, be on the lookout for something arriving in your inbox soon.

Congrats to everyone! I think the real winner (at least in my house) is my wife who now has a range hood she even uses the Summon Husband button to get my attention when I'm hiding out in the workshop…
