TGIF - share your weekend plans for the BeagleBone Black!

Howdy - I was quite pleased to get a groovy BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black t-shirt at The specified item was not found. and couldn't resist wearing it for TGIF.  Boris looks so classy!

For those that have already have a BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black, do you have any new projects you are going to start this weekend?  And for those that are waiting, is there a project idea that has got you excited?

I'm hoping to get RTLizer (an RF spectrum analyzer powered by a USB DVB receiver) to run on the BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black using the HDMI output and GPIO inputs for controls.  Here's what it looks like running on my original Boneoriginal Bone with a LCD3 capeLCD3 cape and battery capebattery cape:

I'm planning to finsih reading the in-depth System Reference Manual [PDF] which I found in BeagleBone Black article on the CircuitCo wiki.  I can't wait for my order for Bad to the Bone to arrive:

If you've not had the pleasure of meeting the brains behind Beagle, Jason Kridner & Gerald Coley, then I recommend checking out this video where cliff ortmeyer of Newark element14 interviews them about the new BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black.  You'll also get a glimpse of the BaconCape (yum!) and a demonstration of how BoneScript makes it simple to interface web apps with the physical world:

And since it's now happy hour on Friday, this video on brewing beer with the BeagleBone BlackBeagleBone Black would seem to be an appropriate chaser:

What this tells me is that they are not processing back orders in order. You ordered on the 12th and received on the 14th. I ordered on the 30 April and I have just (timed at 12:18) received notification that it has been shipped today the 14th.

That's just not fair so I am going to sulk and throw my toys out of the pram till I finally get it. image

On the other hand I did have to wait a lot longer for my first RPi.

You think that's unfair. I ordered my BBB on the 24th April and still haven't had any indication when I'll get one. So you're right, it makes no difference when you placed your order, they're not being fullfilled in order.

I would chase them up if I was you, your order may have gone astray.

Interesting thread on the Circuitco forum, "In Manufacturing, How Do They Program the Onboard Flash Memory"   current capacity 1500/day, soon to be increased as they double the size of the building.

I like Gerald's comment   "Let me see if I can get a picture of it. Warning however, there are a lot of bright blue LEDS!"

Let's think about that for a minute. We know it takes 45 minutes to do the actual download, so allow one hour so that you have time to connect/disconnect, install sd card, hold the button if necessary etc.

If the line runs 24h, then you have 62.5 per hour. Given the size of the board, that's what, one desk ?

Even if they only work an 8 hour day it's not exactly huge, three desks or one metro rack with three shelves.. I reckon that would fit in your garden shed image

If you do get a pic of it, please post the link here too, it would be very interesting to see !

Also, given we worked out earlier from the numbers shipped posted on the circuitco wiki page that they appear to be shipping ~630 per day, a capacity of 1500 per day seems a little odd.

    On the 15th @ 01:08 they had shipped 15353

    On the 16th @ 00:59 they had shipped 16578

Thats 1225 in a day so they are ramping up.

BTW congratulations on member of the month, I doff my cap to you sir.

You may be right.  Farnell UK has an interesting update on BBB availability today, with some consistency:

Farnell UK lists Availability today as:

1114 will be available for delivery on 30 May, 2013
5000 will be available for delivery on 2 Jun, 2013
1500 will be available for delivery on 3 Jun, 2013
10000 will be available for delivery on 9 Jun, 2013

What's worthy of note here is that:

    1. There is a new first-expected-delivery listed (presumably the last one was fulfilled).
    2. The 2nd + 3rd June quantities remain exactly as before, so maybe they are genuine bulk orders.
    3. A huge new bulk order is now listed for 9th June.

This might indicate that Farnell knows something about planned production ramp-up by CircuitCo, way above current figures.  From your estimate of 1225 per day, and there being only 24 days to the 9th June, that estimated production rate can at most yield some 29k units, and it's obviously very unlikely that Farnell UK could acquire 1/3 of all BBB production.

So, either there is a planned major ramp-up not only coming but already in progress, or Farnell's quotes are generated by Magic 8 Ball. image

    Morgaine.

and yet, they have shipped today according to the email I just received.

So I think we can safely infer that uk.farnell.com currently showing

1216 will be available for delivery on 30 May, 2013

5000 will be available for delivery on 2 Jun, 2013

1500 will be available for delivery on 3 Jun, 2013

10000 will be available for delivery on 9 Jun, 2013

needs to be treated with a good deal of skepticism, especially when that 30th May number appears to be increasing..
