Why don't you just attach it as per the photo.
Adafruit make the statement in their guide.
They also make the comment about a downgrade cable here.

Also demanding an answer from the community 4 mins after psoting your question at this time of year, is hardly going to inspire anyone.
I've always found that searching for your own answers means you'll be able to solve many more problems yourself.
Relying on others just causes delays, frustration and work for someone else.

Doesn't the display connect directly onto the Raspberry Pi?
It was designed for the A/B, so the connector is a little shorter, but yes I thought it would just plug on.

Yeah. I though the first 26 pins of the new connectors on the + series have the same pinouts as the original (Rev 2) boards.
When http://www.element14.com/community/people/awesometechkid answers, we'll find out what his concern was.
Hopefully it's something that wasn't in the Adafruit references .....

yes they are essentially you have the same 26+14 more on the end....Dont have them in your board don't worry about them just plug in the ones you have .
The only PITA here is if you have a board that is so close to the RPI that they needed to make cut outs for the connectors which now have moved on the A+/B+meaning the cut outs are in the wrong place ... The GPIO connector however is fine just use the first 26!
Thanks Guys and maybe gals, the problem has been resolved. it turns out that the operating system I was using, NOOBS, is incompatible with the GPIO connector. @thanks
