Installing and Running XXICC rev 0.0k

This document describes how to install and run XXICC on your computer, either by compiling XXICC source code or installing binaries.

 

This is revision 0.0k, which has some additions for Flavia, the Free Logic Array.  Section 4 "Running XXICC" adds target "fla" to load the files needed for Flavia.  New Section 5 tells you how to get the FTDI library you need to talk to the Gadget Factory Papilio One over USB.

    I also built XXICC 0.0k on a BeagleBone White using their 2014-05-14 Debian release.  That worked out very well.  If you have a GNU/Linux machine, I recommend using the Raspberry Pi instructions for downloading the OS image to SD.  I compiled XXICC on the BeagleBone instead of using a cross compiler.  That was easy and reasonably fast.  Just use the XXICC's Makefile with "T=XGL".

     

    2014-05-14 Debian already had libXft.so, so I only had to "apt-get" libftdi.so.  Once that was installed, I was able to run the Flavia software on the BBone and download to my Papilo One 250K.  So now I have two ARM boards that can develop FPGA code without running Xilinx software on a PC.

    I just build XXICC 0.0k using RasPi's new Raspbian "Wheezy" 09-09-2014 release.  Once I had 09-09-2014 installed and configured properly, I used "apt-get install" to install libXft.so and libftdi.so.  "apt-get" seemed to behave properly, but I couldn't find where it put the libraries.  It used to put them in "/usr/lib".  However, now it puts them in "/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf".  So that's where you need to look for libXft.so and libftdi.so.  I'll put this information in the next revision of Installing and Running XXICC.

     

    I did all this on my good old 256MB Raspberry Pi model B w/ rev 1.0 PCB.
