We've updated the Community Verint platform to 12.1.5

In case you missed the announcement:

Upcoming Site Maintenance Feb 6 - Release 2024-1

The element14 Community runs on Verint. Updating to 12.1.5 has fixed several known Verint issues but I suspect it may have introduced some new ones.

We also introduce fixes and improvements on the site based on your feedback and ideas, some of these are still under review to see what we can do with them, and the dev team is still investigating quiz issues, which may soon be resolved, and javascript problems with some site aspects.

I am interested in the current functional problems that you may be experiencing with the website, and that you are having to work around constantly.

Consider this an amnesty to let me know what's working and what isn't working for you, I think it's good that we do this regularly to keep on top of things, and also so I can let you know we haven't forgotten about some of them. Slight smile

Examples of things to say are "Blogs are appearing blank when I try to edit them" or "I'm having trouble messaging people" and any other site functionality, rather than "I wish it behaved like this but it doesn't", but then I still read and listen to all input given.

(P.S. Yes, notifications about things (lack of, and overabundance of) are probably my biggest gripe that I'm still working on with the team and repeating at Verint about)

New version is better on the iPhone. The notifications were quirky in the mobile browser on old Verint, now it behaves as expected.

Nice one.  I guess notifications will always be a gripe with this system so I won't mention them (although I don't have any real issue with them to be honest.)  Most Recent Content on the home page, as it changes by users through postings, comments etc, is my biggest gripe by a long, long way.  I want to know, up front and centre, what people are interested in, including old content - i.e. I want the home page to operate like every other forum site.

The other thing I have mentioned before is that the site just doesn't format properly on mobile devices/small screens.  Not only that important content is subservient to your notices, banners etc.  The block that appears to remind us of upcoming roadtest application expiry and webinars is annoying as it takes up massive amounts of real estate on the screen and is a nag rather than a once-and-dismiss forever thing.

I still get the badly formatted notification emails and after this amount of time I guess it will never be resolved.

    Inconsistent notifications formatting here too.

The activity widget should be working better now if you scroll down on Community Hub  or on What's New on element14 , currently with what Verint makes available with its core API and it treating comments as separate, I raised this on the Verint forums: https://community.telligent.com/community/12/f/ask-the-community/1151540/the-best-widget-for-listing-content-that-is-updated-when-there-s-activity-on-the-content/1620929 so the scope we have for this at present is making the 'activity stream' widget work for us in the first case, and trying to wrangle it into what we want. We'll have to do some performance testing before putting it on the homepage if it's suitable for doing so.

There's meant to be a tick box on it to dismiss it forever. Is that not working? Or is it that it only works for 'one' thing it's reminding you for, for example, a roadtest, and a webinar, or is it not easy to dismiss it properly when you're on mobile? I'm all for making mobile improvements.

I'll take this as an opportunity to look through the posts in feedback and support and see if I can raise this on the Verint forums to get input from others, perhaps others use Verint which can also confirm whether or not they have this problem since our development team couldn't replicate it.

I often forget about the Activity Stream - I guess I miss that link on the home page as my eyes just travel down to the tabbed content over the "Welcome Back [NAME]" title.  Is there any reason though why each entry is so large - can it not be just title, author and modified date?  I don't think it's suitable for home page placement the way it is set up right now because of this.  There's already so much scrolling and paging to be done because lists are short and entries are large.

In regards to the reminder block I've not noticed a tick: when it pops up it is always in the way of what I want to see, I just automatically click the X in the top right - I'll look out for it next time.  If I'm interested in a Roadtest I will already have applied; if I'm interested in a webinar I will have already subscribed and put an entry in my calendar for a reminder.  I accept others do things differently so the reminder may well be good for them so it's not the reminder per-se that's annoying: as with a lot of presented content it's so large and takes up so much real estate and it just seems so unnecessary to be this size (to me) and I don't need the reminder.  On a mobile device it consumes a large portion of the screen until dismissed.

I commented on mobile presentation in this thread - scroll down to find my comment, I couldn't find a way to link directly to it; also hover your mouse over the gallery images to see the text.  The UI for the site on mobile could be a lot better but I guess this isn't really a problem with Verint.

The emails are a funny thing and I don't know how to reproduce it: it just happens when it happens (about 70% of notifications viewed on my iPhone or iPad.)  I can make the following points:

    • It only happens with mails from E14 since switching to Verint.  I have no issue with any other mails sent by any other site, it is just E14 and only since using Verint
    • It happens with Apple Mail on iOS and iPadOS not MacOS.  I've not tried other mail clients and I don't use Windows for mail.
    • My email host is Outlook.com.  The email on the Outlook website always looks ok.  The email on MacOS Mail app always looks ok.  It may look ok on both my iPhone and iPad.  70% of the time it may look good on my iPhone but not my iPad or vice-versa.  0% of the time it looks bad on both devices at the same time.
    • I have noticed sometimes that it may start out looking ok on a device, and then later when I re-view it, it no longer displays correctly (but will continue to be ok on the other device.)
    • It's the exact same email downloaded from Outlook.com.  If I delete it from either my iPad or iPhone it disappears on the other device (and host.)  It's the exact same email.
    • On my iMac, Apple Mail is using POP to manage my email account.
    • On my iPhone and iPad, the mail app is using IMAP to manage my email account.  I think: that information is no longer displayed on the mail settings but the way I use email points to them being IMAP.

This may be a bug or "a feature" on iOS Mail or iPadOS Mail but if it is, it is only surfaced by the notification mails from E14, no one else.  My likely guess is that there's something in the headers/structure/whatever of E14 mails or your email server configuration that causes it to happen but I also couldn't rule out some corruption in the mail database on my iPhone or iPad if no one else has this problem.

It may be worth noting that avatars in notification mails are sometimes only correct for the comment starter (I say sometimes, because the notification mail for your reply had the correct avatar.)  For example:  Shabaz makes a top-level comment on a forum or blog or whatever post, the notification email shows Shabaz's avatar.  Chris Stanton replies to that comment: the notification mail says that Chris has made a comment and shows Shabaz's avatar and not Chris's.  DougW replies to Chris's comment: the notification email says DougW has made a comment but shows Shabaz's avatar, not DougW.  In other words it seems the avatar id is not being correctly updated on the notification (maybe the image is being pulled out of cache somewhere??) when it isn't the first level comment.  I wouldn't know if this is a Verint or Information Architecture bug.

Can I also suggest that Search is a PITA?  I used it to find the link above and it took ages.  I couldn't remember the exact post and my comment wasn't visible in "My Content" under my profile.  My search terms had to be iteratively refined because the filters aren't great: I knew it was a comment I had posted but my name isn't visible in the author profile (a lot of those who were I'd never heard of!) Anyway, got there in the end but it seems that unless you know exactly what your are searching for it's quite hard to know whether (a) there is no content you're looking for; or (b) you just aren't using the right search terms and filters aren't helping. For me, it's usually the latter because I've learnt to use search to find things that I absolutely know exist but I can't reach any other way.  I guess I don't really workaround Search, just use it when I absolutely must and then wrangle it for an unnecessarily long time until it brings up what I'm looking for.  I think Google is better for finding things on E14 if I don't know that they exist.

Anyway, this seems to have gone on a bit: I'm not ranting, honestly, just providing the feedback on the problems.  I know it's an expensive task but I really wish you'd dump Verint for something more useable Slight smile

Since the new version, I noticed this when clicking the tab to view the Reviews section on the home screen... it's showing zero views, when clearly people have viewed as there's likes and comments. The interesting part is that 1 of the 3 has a view count.
