2021 Summary of element14 activity - DougW

My annual summary of activity is how I find all my old content. It works better than the search engine. This year has been a difficult year from many perspectives as I'm sure everyone is aware. My activity has been adversely affected by the incredible component shortages, shipping delays and general supply chain issues plaguing the industry. This caused a few Project14 deadlines to be missed and the deadlines I did meet were often right down to the wire.

Participation, mine included, has also been adversely affected by the big switch to Verint.

However element14 is still the best place for people like me to hang out and the efforts of the staff and members to keep it vibrant are enormously appreciated.

The year started out with a fairly involved dive into vibration sensing on my Stirling engine which was mostly completed the previous year but spilled over into 2021.

I was also lucky enough to be awarded a random loot package - thanks element14.

Then it was on to a Data Conversion project where I explored Force Sensitive Resistors and a USB ADC

Then I did The Logical Project for the Digital Fever Project 14

Then there was a Raspberry Pi Pico road test

That was followed by Cinema-Scope, a Photography Project 14.

Which was followed by a DIY Test Instrumentation project I called The Missing Link

Then I wrote a small blog about prototyping boards:

Then an Off The Shelf Project 14 - a Raspberry Pi digital microscope I called I Spy With My Digital Eye .... a Pico PI

Then a little tribute to element14 and EPROM

Then of course I got involved in a Halloween project called What The Helmet

Then it was on to a Spy Nerd project 14 I called Snoop Dog or Snoop Cat

Then I did a little blog video about electronic vises

I then started a Just Encase Design Challenge with my Just Encase Solar Super Capacitor Experiment which will spill over into next year.

Summary

This year was characterized by lots of frustration and struggles to complete projects, but looking back on it, quite a lot was accomplished despite the tribulations. I hope all the other members can persevere with their projects in the new year because that is what really makes this site so special.
