Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a case for the Model B?
Just ordered a couple of cases from 7dayshop.com - these are cases for memory cards.
They look fairly smart, tough and are about the right size. 7*11*2 cm
At £2.69 each with a bit of drilling and filing I may have solved the case problem.
Just need a Raspberry Pi to Try them on.
(Also ordered the memory cards from them).
Hey, How is everyone doing regarding finding a case for there PI, I decided to design one myself, we'll see how it goes, still a work in progress, take a look, let me know what you think and suggestions.. http://i40.tinypic.com/33ooew1.png
I like it. What do you have in mind for ventilation? I like the idea of side-vents, similar to the Seagate Dockstar. I suggested it to Marco, and hopefully he'll take it into consideration. The only issue I'd see with that type of ventilation would be weak joints between the top and bottom of the case, though you could easily adjust where the two parts join and place vents in the four corners on each side. You could also do "scoop" style vents at the top (recessed in and at an angle. Would look nice and should provide adequate passive cooling when the SoC is coupled with soft heatsink.
Keep up the good work. Would like to see a 3d-printed model.
Hey thanks for the support Jeremy, been working on my case again tonight, may implement side ventilation, for the mean time i have added some to the bottom. Dont feel that im a millionmiles away with it, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel haha, please take a look at my progess attached pic.
I've been working on a case in lego - it's cheap, tough and expandable. I'm looking at using lego itself to clamp the Raspberry Pi board in place (or using the sugru setting rubber stuff - although I want the pi to be removable)
version 1 is here: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-SHVfnoIL4cU/TyPZGKPN3aI/AAAAAAAAAP8/u4vcjO7JhXA/s640/2012-01-28.jpg i've mounted the circuitboard vertically with the USB / network connector at the top.
Big advantage is that if the Pi is bigger than my estimation I can adjust the case easily. Also worth considering if you want to add the Gertboard add-on to the GPIO pins at a later date.
As I am not sure what I will ultimately do with a RasPi, I think my first effort will be just to get it up and running. My fears are based on older experiences in bending connectors and cracking printed circuits.
So I think I will get some kind of case that will allow me to extend a USB hub to some external ports on the case. Same for power, video and network ports. Then if I mangle anything, I won't jeopardize the board. Can't wait.
I see earlier in this thread that Bud Industries is working on a case. I have used a ton of their products at work to house electronics for use in computer controlled test sets on optoelectronic manufacturing production lines, and I must say that they are of very good quality. If it isn't too expensive I will definitely be getting one.
Hi William
I found one on Ebay and it looks like more will be manufactured.
