SimpleLink™︎ Sub-1 GHz Wireless Microcontroller - Use SmartRF to Try Radio Configs

Jan Cumps

Complexity: easy

What do you need:

  • two CC1310 LaunchPads Out of Box
  • SmartRF software, available from the CC1310 Landing Page

You can play with the CC1310 radio settings straight away after you pulled the devices out of the box.

This exercise works with the pre-loaded firmware.

You'll learn to graph the signal strength, and to try out your radios in different frequencies and modes.

Setting things up

If you have a Code Composer Studio installation, you will have the right USB drivers.

Plug in both LaunchPads, download SmartRF and off you go.

Start the Test

Run SmartRF. You'll see that it reports that 2 LaunchPads are connected.

Double-click on the CC1310 square to open both control panels (you will recognise the debugger's Serial Num value in the list lines and in the control panel's title).

Choose one that's playing the sender and one the receiver. I've placed the control panels side by side.

I make the left side the sender, and the right side the receiver.

Take care that you configure both sides with compatible values - and that the frequency you use is legal in your region.

Then you can try continuous or burst mode of the setup you've configured.

In both cases, press the start button for the Receiver side first and then the one of the Sender's control panel.

Good Luck
