The Best RoadTest Reviews of 2022

imageWhat information should go into a roadtest review? How does one write a great roadtest review? I've tried to answer these questions on my How To Write a RoadTest Review blog. I went back and re-read the blog today (it was written perhaps three years ago). I listed the following attributes:

1. Write a Great Summary
2. Use Lots of Visuals
3. Be Objective, Not Emotional
4. Show, Don't Tell
5. Be Fair and Authentic

These seem to still hold true. But how does it really play out? How do these attributes makes a roadtest review one of the best for the year?

I asked community members what they thought were the most interesting roadtest reviews written in 2022. I'll list them next, as well as a few of my own choices. Each of these not only follow the five guidelines above, but also add that extra spark which gives them a "movable" purpose as a tutorial, technology deep dive, and the "I didn't know you could do that"  sentiment.

So, here are the best, most interesting, and memorable roadtest reviews that participating element14 members called out (in alphabetical order):


As you must gather, there were many excellent roadtest reviews in 2022. That's why I choose not to pin it down to a single review. But I'd like to add some of my own choices to the above list (in alphabetical order):

  • It is nice to revisit all these great road tests - they represent a significant body of work.

    The Road Test Program is a truly great aspect of element14 in large part due to how well it is run.

  • In a certain northern district's radio group (there are such obscure groups) one of the guys in some town up there mentioned that he still remembered when he was 13, he gave his dad his birthday money to order a kit from a little shop in London called Henry's, and that was the start of his electronics career. Another member also remembered the store. I live a hundred miles away from them, and when I was little, I took a train to London with my uncle, he took me to Henry's and I bought a breadboard with £5 my mum had given me for the day, and that was one of the key events for me too, that meant I've always worked in technology, and electronics and computing has given me a career.

    It got us wondering, did the owners of that little store realize how many lives they changed? Did our parents and uncles know how that small amount of extra help they gave us that day was a big leap for us too, to be more comfortable than they had it.

    The point is, fast-forward to today, and as adults, we are still learning, and this time it's thanks to the continuing education we get from the RoadTests and Webinars. With what it teaches us, it is still life-changing, keeping us up-to-date.

    It's already started feeling like holiday time here, there was the first sign of snow yesterday!
