The Spice of Pi - Glenn blog # 6

Another quick update.  This mainly deals with the fidgeting servos.  e14phil suggested using the pigpio library try to eliminate the twitches.  I finally was able to get to do this and here is a video of the results:

You will notice that the delay between the servo moving is blocking the AIY voice recognizer from running. That is why the assistant does not respond to my Ok Google request.  The first delay is 100 ms which is not announced on the video, and then I bumped it up to 1 second which I do mention before the servo starts spinning.  With this library, there is very little fidgeting.  Now I need to get it to respond to voice commands...

Also dougw, I think this is what you wanted to fix your icon on the desktop not executing your AIY scipt: https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/65744/launch-python-script-in-desktop-without-root-privileges .  You have to make sure that the .desktop file that you create, in the permissions tab, is set to be able to execute by everyone.

Very nice - it looks like there is plenty of accuracy to handle 16 platter angles. Thanks for the shortcut tip...

Nice update on your servo control. Hopefully you can find the proper mix of delays and other fixes to give you the smooth servo action that you need, without causing the spice tray to 'crawl' into position…
