The theme this month is Photography  and it comes from dougw .   His idea was to build any projects involving photos.  You could do projects involving stop action photography by combining timers and photography to create stop action photography video projects or any number of projects involving image processing and cameras.  You could do TinyML projects using OpenMV as covered in Build Powerful Wildlife & Livestock Trackers with OpenMV and Edge Impulse, a computer vision project involving AI such as the drone project in Arduino Day Workshop: NanoDrone II: AI and Computer Vision with LoRa (Win a PSoC6 and a Pair of MKR 1300 Boards!) ,  training a neural network such as in LDR Camera #10 : The Artificial Neural Network (SimonnV5) and LDR Camera #8 : Fully Working Camera , using advanced vision and frame manipulation for obstacle avoidance such as in BBAI Seein' Around Corners, Talkin', IoT Exploitin' Backup Car Cam with Onboard Vision AI ,  FPGA such as in SecuCam #2: Hardware Accelerated Motion Detection with the PYNQ-Z2, robotic automation such as Episode 489: Build An FPV Rover with Raspberry Pi , augmented reality such as ARBot #5 : The Final Working (after a fashion) System , and even a Lego Camera such as Episode 465: Lego Raspberry Pi HQ Camera.   There's a lot scope to these projects so share your project ideas below and help inspire one another to get as creative as possible!  If your project idea involves the Raspberry Pi HQ Camera then we'll send you a Raspberry Pi 4 B,  a Raspberry Pi HQ module, and a 12 MP lens to help you turn your idea into a reality.  We're giving away up to 5 Raspberry Pi HQ kits as a promotion.  You can still use whatever hardware you like but we'll pick a few project proposals to send kits to!

About Project14
Directions

Every month you'll have a new poll where you'll get to decide an upcoming project competition, based on your interests, that will take place a couple of months in advance. Themes are broad in scope so that everyone can participate regardless of skill set.

 

What are Monthly Themes?

  • Every month (around the 14th of each month) a new theme will be posted on Project14.
  • Submit your ideas (proposals) for your projects to get feedback from the rest of the community.
  • Submit a project entry in the Theme space once you start working on it.

 

What are Monthly Theme Polls?

  • Every month (around the 14th of each month) there is a project theme poll.
  • Vote on which project competition you want to see for the following upcoming theme.
    • The themes voted on during the previous poll decided the upcoming theme.
    • If you submit an idea for a theme that is not used then it can still be used in a future poll.
  • Themes comments and ideas from the comments section of the project theme poll.

    What I want to build is a "Automatic bird HQ photography".

    This may seem a idea which is already implemented but I want to do it as we have many different types of birds coming in our garden to drink water in this hot summer.

     

    Actually, I already own two RPI official camera but they are not that great choice for this project. The HQ camera will be capturing images and be also able to zoom in/out to properly capture the image.

     

    Also, I want to automate the tasks with bash scripts so that I can get all the picture in my laptop's folder from anywhere around the world. The following link also mentions some of the protocols.

    I want to also use other security camera features with multiple protocols so that it can be truly flexible and one can be able to customize everything as per their needs.

    My son (7) and I recently did the Leprechaun Trap for the Cheer Us Up challenge, and we have been thinking about this challenge. We would use this kit to 'spy' on our dog during the night when he sleeps and during the day when he also ... sleeps. He sleeps a lot. He's an English Bulldog. If you don't know about English Bulldogs, they do everything loudly including breathing. I'd like to capture on video him farting, which he does a lot, and also all the other noises me makes, which he does loudly as well. I'd also like to capture his behavior throughout the day to confirm my suspicions that he is a manipulative and persistent force to be reckoned with.

    Hey All!

         I'm building an Autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicle Using ROS. If I get a chance to win a free kit. I'll be using the Raspberry Pi to run and handle the ROS nodes of my robot and sensor fusion. Also I will be using the Raspberry Pi HQ Camera for object detection, Path detection and following and obstacle detection purposes. I'll be integrating IMU sensor, RPlidar Sensor, Motor Driver and Motor encoders to the Raspberry Pi 4. So, Here Raspberry Pi plays a vital role in my project(Brain of my project). Also, the Raspberry Pi HQ Camera will be integrated in the UGV for perception(Vision). The main applications of this project are warehouse automation, can be used as an autonomous robot in hospital for delivering food and medicines contactlessly(to fight this Covid Pandemic), Can be used as an educational robot to teach Robot Operating System to the students. I've already completed simulation of my UGV using Gazebo and ROS, and have tested my code for autonomous navigation and perception and got a fruitful result. Now, I'm working on realtime development of the robot and already thought of using a raspberry pi for ROS process handling and Pi Camera for Perception. And this Project14 Contest gave me a chance to apply my idea for winning a Raspberry Pi and HQ Camera Kit. This is more than a project can say prototyping of a product. Hope I'll get one to complete my project successfully.

    I have a hobby of gardening and I like to devote myself to it in my little free time. I have created an automated seedbed in which I can control the temperature and humidity of the newly sown seedlings and I would like to use the Raspberry Pi HQ Camera Kit to monitor the growth process of the plants to be able to decide with AI techniques when the time of transplant or if there are problems or diseases, for example, mold, fungus or parasites that cause yellowing of the leaves or cause the seedlings to wilt.

    It would be really interesting to build a point+shoot camera. Yes, I know the idea has been used a lot of times.

     

    I have built one last summer with an 8mp camera and actually have most of the stuff needed to get it to work(except, 8mp isn't exactly great to say).

     

    Of course I wouldn't be able to use Enrico's guide to make an old camera smarter, because I'm not quite willing to take apart a DSLR for that image

     

    Who knows, maybe I could even try plugging in an NCS2 to see what happens.

    I've noticed this as well, especially in the industrial area where my work is located. Some birds I have never seen before have recently been spotted and I've had to search the internet to identify them image

    This pandemic has made humans sit inside their cagesimage. When humans are inside their cages (home), this means that other animals are free to roam on their wonderful earth.

    I have experienced the same around my home. I live outside the city, so there is not much crowd in my area. Recently, many birds have been visiting my area daily. There might be 4-5 different species of birds. Seeing these birds have made me very curious to know more about them because I had never seen so many birds together before the pandemic. But sadly, they are fast and tiny enough to escape my eyes, I am unable to identify them.

    I also tried capturing their photos but again they are fast enough.

    We have placed some pots with water and grains for them near my home. I plan to capture them in action.

     

    My project is divided into various steps, If I get the kit, I will try to complete all of these steps:

    1. The birds come and sit at various spots, I plan to capture them at all of these spots. The birds come to drink water from the pot which we have placed in the nearby garden. I plan to capture them while drinking water, landing and taking off. This can be done by using image classification models which will identify if there is any bird on the screen or not, if it identifies any bird, it will capture its pic in every 5 seconds. Now, to capture the bird in motion, I think I will use PI-TIMOLO, it identifies the change in pixels, that would trigger the camera to capture pics. But, this task depends on how fast it worksimage.
    2. In the next step, I am thinking of making a turntable using stepper or servo motors. This will track the birds when they are in flight. Again, it also needs to be fast enough. And it can be used to capture multiple birds which are a little apart like on the electricity cable next to my house. Again the image classification can be used to achieve this job. The motion of the bird across the screen will be tracked and accordingly commands will be given to the turntable.
    3. In the final step and probably the most hard one, I will try to create an autofocus and autoaperture mechanism using the stepper motors, so that the capturing process becomes fully  automatic. It can done using teethed gears and stepper or servo motors. It will also be controllable remotely by a smartphone. This step is optional because I dont have any idea yet how will I achieve it.

     

    I have some mini projects too in my mind like capturing lighting bolts and time lapses.
