Project14 | Holiday Special 2023: Win Tool Kit Bundles, Shopping Carts, and Gifts to Give Others!

14 Nov 2023

Welcome to the 7th annual holiday special project competition. The holidays mean something different to everyone so think about what makes the holidays special to you and do a project around it. Use your imagination to build something that could only come from you and what makes the holidays unique to you!  Share your joy, creativity, and holiday spirit with the community.

Let your creativity run wild! Work on your holiday project and bring your vision to life using music, LED displays, Nixie Pixels, strobe lights, a fog machine, or anything else that puts you into a celebratory mood. You could also do a project inspired by gifts, food, or cards exchanged during the holidays.  Or you could focus on electronic ways of sending the warmest wishes to friends and family, such as an electronic greetings card, a way to automatically email or use RF transmission to link up via video etc.  It can also be a fun project that's made in the holiday spirit such as a snow globe that will warn you of inclement weather conditions, voice-activated ornaments, jazzed up holiday cards, LED decorations - anything that means the holidays to you.  Your project can be related to Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or Festivus for the rest of us related!  It can even be a Star Wars project, if you only believe in the Force.

May the force of your creativity be with you as you embark on this special holiday challenge!

Your Chance to Win

Come Up With a Clever Name
Stick to the Theme
  • A clever name can make your project memorable.
  • The right name can distinguish your project from others and help create buzz around your project.
  • This project is your baby! Part of the fun of bringing something new into the world is coming up with a name.
  • If you have an idea for a project that doesn't fit the current theme then submit your idea in the comments section of the monthly poll.
Be Original
Submit Video Proof
  • Providing the steps you took to complete your project (text, video, or images) and providing video proof should be sufficient in most cases.
  • If your project introduces something new or something that is not commercially available or affordable then that counts!
  • If it doesn't work that's fine, this program is more about the journey than the end product.
  • A short video is all that is required but you can shoot as much video as you like.
  • You are encouraged to be creative and have as much fun as possible!

"...I guess I could excavate the crawlspace..."

You never know where it might end... Underground garage for the DeLorean perhaps ?  Slight smile

That would be quite a feat, even if I had a basement.  I guess I could excavate the crawlspace Thinking.

I can't even begin to imagine what your holiday decorations are like....

"...Quite an effort to setup and put away..."

How about a 'missile silo' type arrangement in the basement that allows you to raise the 8' tree up through the floor in December and lower it back down in January ?

You can decorate it as it is being raised through the floor avoiding the need for stepladders and over-reaching.

Following that you can perhaps work on a decorating robot that puts the decorations on for you according to an app on the mobile phone, which also allows you to program the light show whilst you are at it... Slight smile

Ha!  You got me. Stuck out tongue. I was referring to our pre-Covid tree.  It was 8 ft tall with 3 sections and 4 strings of lights.  Quite an effort to setup and put away.  The new one is only 4 1/2 ft with 2 sections and pre-lit.

We gave up on real trees after the kids grew up.  Might need to rethink it now that we have a grandson.

Smaller than the old one ?!

You're going to need SMT LEDs and baubles if you go much smaller. Slight smile
