The theme this month was Robots with Wheels  and it came from koudelad .

This competition fittingly coincided with Open Arduino and the recently launched Project14 | The Birthday Special: Open Arduino: The Winners Announcement!

There was a lot of crossover between the two competitions including some of the most memorable projects from mcb1 ,  jomoenginer , balearicdynamics , and carmelito , which made this the perfect competition to ride coattail with Open Arduino .

This was a particularly challenging theme but one the members really enjoyed and like classics like DIY Test Equipment have indicated that they would like to see again.

After all,  who didn't walk away from Star Wars wanting their own robot (and laser sword)?

Carmelito  made some really good 3D printed parts for his simple robot. What  really got me was how dextrous it was moving around - the tall cup  giving it a very likable personality. - Community Member Judge

I was very happy (and surprised) to be a winner of the Robots with Wheels challenge. Being a newcomer to Element14 this was the first thing I contributed and I only did it for fun. I didn't even realise that there was a prize until the winners were announced, although I'm not sure how I missed this as it is on all the links. It was great fun to be able to build a mobile robot just for fun (you can never mention the word fun too many times in relation to engineering!). I think the part I enjoyed most was being able to connect everything together without having to make any special connectors or PCBs, or writing extensive software (there were example libraries for everything (the glory of open source and sharing) and that it actually worked!

It was a shame RobobBobLet was injured in an accident but the prize might be useful for getting some replacement continuous rotation servo motors. Or I might just spend the prize on nuts and bolts, literally. I think I am reverting to my childhood Meccano days as I want to screw and bolt everything together. mainly so I can take it apart again when I find out I have done it wrong.

Thanks to everyone who commented as it was all very encouraging.

    Dubbie

Congratulations to the participants and the winners, this was really a fun Project14 theme...

Rod, +1 for your comment on potentially making this an annual theme.

Congrats to the winners and the other runner ups.  There were certainly some fun projects posted.   One day I'll take on the R2-D2 build and the micro:bit STEM, or is it STEAM, project is something I need to take back to the Robotics club I'm in.

Likewise, well done to carmelito Sean_Miller and dubbie for showing us their great projects. I really liked seeing CupBot nibblely manoeuvring around - the simple/tall design made it instantly likeable (who would have thought we could have empathy for a plastic cup ! ).

Well done also to the other competitors who also brought us some great wheeled projects and of course to tariq.ahmad for pulling this (and all the other Project14 stuff) together this month image.

I think E14 community could easily have this as an annual fun theme.

Congratulations to all the winners and runner ups.  This is a very cool bunch of robots, developed though some serious hard work and skills.

    Well done all!
