Having regular blogs I think really helps with the planning and having to write up the results does make my learning sink in faster. Before the challenge I'd done a bit of Arduino coding, very little Linux stuff (in the last 20 years) and I've only been 3D printing since December last year. Having to learn a lot to get things working, the only thing that's familiar is the coding needed to talk to the APIs etc.
That's right. I know that putting down notes helps to better learn. And if you try to teach somebody else you are even learning more. An other thing the competition helps me is keeping the focus. I have lots of dev boards and other stuff laying arround gathering dust, because after the first disapointment my interest turned somewhere else. Here this is not an option, so I keep trying and learning.
And seeing your progress urges me to spend the necessary time...
