This program is dedicated to the community members.

A highlight of the first year was the DIY Test Equipment competition and it was off to a bang with Cyclops-1000: An Electronic Eye for Rotational Speed Measurement  by shabaz.  shabaz 's project gave the program a shot in the arm at a time of great uncertainty.

It was also during DIY Test Equipment that  Jan Cumps introduced the Project14 audience to the Programmable Electronic Load project that he, jc2048 , and Robert Peter Oakes were working on:

USB Programmable (electronic DC load) Test Equipment

and it inspired ipv1  to do his own diy programmable DC Load test equipment project:

Project14's DIY Test Equipment: DIY Constant Current Load

The Open Arduino brought back fond memories of the DIY Test Equipment when Jan Cumps revisited Programmable Electronic Load by making The Birthday Special a part of the history of the prototype that he is working with along with jc2048  and peteroakes .

To extend the capabilities of his lab this member is creating repeatable and automated test setups.  The goal is to control the lab instruments and have all measurements logged to a document. The PSU and scope are programmable, a programmable DC load has been designed, what’s missing is a programmable switch that can be used to turn signals on or off:

  • Arduino in Test Instrumentation - Intro: SCPI Programmable Switch
  • Arduino in Test Instrumentation - Part 1: SCPI Lib
  • Arduino in Test Instrumentation - Part 2: Firmware
  • Arduino in Test Instrumentation - Part 3a: LabVIEW Driver Intitialisation Block
  • Arduino in Test Instrumentation - Part 3b: LabVIEW Driver Switch Control Block
  • Arduino in Test Instrumentation - Part 3c: LabVIEW Driver Read Status Block
  • Arduino in Test Instrumentation - Outro: LabVIEW Example

Using SCIP library introduced by jancumps , jc2048 worked on a resistor to resistor network.  R-2R sounds like it could be a robot from the Star Wars Universe, but in electronics it's the name of a resistor network that can be used to make a DAC (digital-to-analog converter):

  • Part 1: Arduino: R-2R Experiment
  • Part 2: Arduino: R-2R: Sine On You Crazy Diamond
  • Part 3: Arduino: R-2R: Buffer, Attenuate, and Filter
  • Part 4: Arduino: R-2R: "We Interrupt This Programme..."
  • Part 5: Arduino: R-2R: "Resistance is..."?
  • Part 6: Arduino: R-2R; "A Sweep is as Lucky, as Lucky Can Be..."
  • Part 7: Arduino: R-2R: Setting the Signal Amplitude

The work done on the resistor to resistor network became the basis of jc2048 Project14 and Arduino Birthday Present:

A Simple Arduino Music Box

He used it to play the theme song of a certain popular scifi movie that has become a reoccurring theme of the Project14 program:

Project14 is all about projects.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this program by submitting projects!

This competition coincided with the first birthday of Project14.  Thank you to everyone that said Happy Birthday!

Its not a party unless all your friends come so thank you so much for joining along and celebrating by submitting projects!

It also coincided with Star Wars Day.  Here's a survey from that occasion:

Project14 | Star Wars Day: What Path Did You Follow on May the Fourth?

It also coincided with Arduino Day:

Arduino | Birthday Wishes for Arduino Day 2018!

Arduino Projects for Arduino Day:  LED and Laser Projects: Part 1!

Arduino Projects for Arduino Day: Water and Irrigation Projects: Part 1!

Arduino Projects for Arduino Day: Water and Irrigation Projects: Part 2

Didn't get to do as many Arduino roundup posts as we'd like to but that's ok.  We'll make it a more regular thing and highlight all the great Arduino projects from the community members.

It also coincided with the anniversary of Original Star Wars movie in 1977!  Not to mention Geek Pride Day on May 25th as that was when we announced the winners!

Thank you for everyone that participated and hope to see you more in Project14 competitions such as Smart Alarm Clock  and Simple Music Maker !

So long for just a while....

In case no one else noticed I want to mention that it is Sunday Night and tariq.ahmad is still working. That is dedication and I hope he gets a big raise for the great job you are doing. John

    Congratulations to everyone.

One correction however. I was very honored to be mentioned along with  Robert Peter Oakes and Jan Cumps with respect to the Electronic Load project but I was not a participant nor a contributor to this excellent build.

Correction made and different spelling of the name so should have picked up on that.

Still,  an interesting story and example of how the community can work to help inspire collaboration on projects!
